Steering wheel control upgrade??

First of all, thanks to those who have posted replies and have helped people in the past, present and future. This is a great resource. As the PROUD new owner (new to me) of a 2004 FX4 Supercrew, I am am looking to see if there is someway to replace my steering wheel with the steering wheel that has the radio/HVAC controls. I have a 6 disc stock HU. NO ADIOPHILE. How can I upgrade to a steering wheel that will allow me to change the station/CD?volume etc from the wheel???

Thanks

Brad

you must likely have the radio controls on the back of your stereo right now (I did on my '04 6-disc w/ no audiophile), only way to confirm is to take it out and see. The problem with the steering wheel controls is that it includes HVAC controls, inwhich you'll need to convert your HAVC controls to the electronic ones as seen on the Lariats. In addition, you'll need to run wires from the steering column to the radio.

It's a lot of work, but it can be done. Probably not worth the price though in my opinion. If you're good with electronics and reading electronic schematics - go for it, might be kinda fun - if not, well, you'll just have to live with reaching over to turn up the volume ;-).

If you're clever, and handy with electronics and wiring this shouldn't be a problem...

I am handy with wiring.
I can purchase the buttons for the wheel.
Is there a harness to purchase from FORD?
I dont have the audiophile system, but I do have the 6 disc changer, does that mean I have the steering wheel capability in my stock HU ?

no wiring harness, you'll have to run the wires from the controls to pin 18 and 19 of the stereo harness... here is the diagram for the audio harness... Also the diagram of the climate control / audio control circuit. Have at it:

I did this same mod for my 2007 FX4 by swapping the standard controls with the Lariat/MK LT controls p/n 6L3Z-9C888-AA and now nothing works on the steering wheel, not even cruise control. Any ideas?

How do i activate my steering wheel controls for the stereo on my 2007 f150

Hello,

I just recently bought a 2007 F150 Harley Davidson Edition from the Dealer and after fighting off all of the nickle and dime malarkey; I came to discover the steering wheel controls for the sirius radio and 6 disc feed changer doesn't work (it is all in one). The dealer is an hour and a half away, and I am sick of dealing with them; I am positive they disconnected the controls, can I just connected it back myself? The wiring is probably there...

Any help will be welcomed...

Thanks!

there Is only one connection you have to look for. Its in the steering wheel under the airbag. Are your AC controls still working? They are a different circuit but the same plug.
IF they are then the plug under the airbag is connected. Check to see you have the wires in the back of the stereo connector.
Main connector large one in the back of radio, pin 18-19 (refer to schematics above) The wires are 18 light blue with red stripe and 19 dark green with orange stripe.

If the wires are there and the connector is in it should work.
