What's The Best Remote Starter Kit?

ANYONE HAVE SOME IDEAS FOR REMOTE STARTER KITS?
WHAT IS A GOOD, NOT-TOO-EXPENSIVE KIT? I'VE SEEN KITS AT THE LOCAL WALMART FOR AS LOW AS $45.00 BUT I THINK THAT WOULD BE TOO CHEAP (IT WAS A BULLDOG).
HOW MANY ADDITIONAL RELAYS AND OTHER ITEMS ARE NORMALLY REQUIRED TO DO THESE?

I OWN A 1997 X-CAB F-150 LARIAT 4X4 4.6L

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
SHELBY J.

I like my DEI setup. It was installed by the previous owner so I don't know the specifics or price. I did install a Bulldog system in my previous car (T-bird). No PATS system and only required 2 additional relays for the remote locks. I only paid $120 for the kit and it included 4 relays for the crank, on, ACC, and trunk release. The instructions sucked but I'm used to that so I had to reverse engineer everything to figure out exactly what wires to tap. I was extremely happy with it for that cost.

I have a Viper 550 ESP...it's a little pricey at $400 installed, but you can get it on ebay for about $200 and install it yourself if you are knowledgeable enough to do it (i sure wasn't) . Anyways, I love it! I use it everyday, in fact, i always remote start, i never manually start. It's the best thing i've bought for my truck!! Cools the truck on hot days (don't forget to leave the a/c on ), and warms it on those cold mornings. I highly reccommend this system, especially the range. Oh, not only is this a remote starter, it is also an alarm!! Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Cold mornings he says. Anyone else notice where he's located? SOUTH FLORIDA!! LOL

Plus, he's got heated seats because of the King Ranch...

Hot days, I'll take that one... cold mornings... you're going to have to sell that swampland to another interested real estate investor.

ROFL!!

I have the AstroStart brand in my 98. $300 bucks installed and a lifetime warranty on the labor. Mine can reach upto 1400'. You can get other one's with alarms, etc for upwards of $500. I love mine, especially when it gets to -10 or so.

I've bought and installed at least 10 of these units and have not had a problem yet. For $80.00 you can't beat the price...range is great, works on diesel's just fine....nothing but good things to say.

Check them out.

Alaska Weather...

I live in Alaska and I have been looking into a car starter for sometime now. The Viper 550 ESP sounds good... However, does this come with door locks? I would really like to have that option as well. I hate having to unlock the other door from the inside.

A question for those of you looking for just a remote starter. What is the viper giving you for $439.00 that the DirectStart 423 at 12voltshop.com isn't? I can understand if your looking for security but to start your truck its not making sense to me ....spending 200-300 more dollars. Is it the name? not knocking anyone, just wondering is all, it just seems people get hung up on the name brand, most of the off brand stuff is just the good stuff without the name....not all the time but, it happens in the electronic world very often.

Just finished installing another DirectStart 423 in my wifes new Mazda Protage5.

Has anyone heard of this before? Mazda uses one wire for both lock and unlock, direct connection for the unlock and a direct connect with a 1k ohm resistor in line for the lock. I didn't have a resistor so I can't report on how it works yet, connecting each wire seperately does unlock the doors.

I have installed hundreds of remote starts at my shop and Bulldog is not bad if you are installing yourself. I now use accelle and have been real happy with them. DEI is really good but if you are installing yourself there are alot of wires they have on them you dont need. Your `97 F150 is an easy one to do and I can send you a wiring sheet for your truck if you like.
