Pro Comp Off Road Lights: HID Conversion.

Okay, before I begin explaining how and what I did to convert my off road lights to HID, please note that neither F150online nor I are responsible for your actions if you'd like to attempt coping what I did.

So, last week I picked up the HIDs I'll be needing to convert my winch ready bumper lights, (refer to https://www.f150online.com/forums/ge...want-xmas.html )
With the assistance of my friend George, AKA UnleashedFord I was able to purchase 3 HID kits for only $35 a pair; thanks again George for letting me use you business account.

Halogen bulbs

Open it

Take the bulb and wires apart

Get your HID ready

The clip that holds the bulb in place was too small to secure the HID bulb, so I hot glued it

Clip the ends of the wires that go to the battery, cut the wires from the HID bulb and remove wires off rubber socket.

Perforate a quarter size hole on the back of the light housing

Now take the rubber socket and insert in the hole.

Now feed the ballast wire where the original wires were before.

I then soldered an extension to bridged the 2 wires together and have enough play.

Now when the bulb's housing is installed the back of the HID bulb will have enough room to set in nicely.

And you're ready to install complete your installation.

The easy way to install it would be to just feed the bulb including wires and rubber socket through the back of the light housing after it's been perforated.

And you done but, the back of the HID bulb will be crowded amounts the 4 wires coming in through the rubber socket.

But as some of you already know I love complicating my life cause I love challenges so I did it the complicated way cause it has a cleaner look.

Warning!!!

2 things never ever to do if you're brave enough to attempt this type of installation.

First, NEVER EVER, NEVER NEVER NEVER,......leave your stuff laying on the garage floor while you go to home depot and fetch materials.

Cause you'll probably come home and find your wife came home earlier than anticipated and parked the expedition in the garage as she always does
and you'll find this VVVV

Secondly, never ever, ever, ever hold the back housing like this VVV

Then attempt to clean the metal shaving stuck on the other side of the housing:

Cause you will BLEED. :o

At least I have some numbers to play the CA lottery tomorrow.

1,4,10,13,40 now take 1+4+1+3=9 as my mega

At least she only got one light.....

I had an ex gf do the same thing to a pair of lights I had sitting on the garage floor after I painted the insides and waiting for the silicone to dry.

All of the off road lights on the F150 are HIDs.

Yeah she only ran over one. Funny thing is, she told me that she heard something crushed then back up and heard it again; she got out of the vehicle and looked but didn't see anything. Then she finished parking the vehicle and thought she heard something crackled again but still didn't see anything after getting off the vehicle.

"I ran over it again and again, figured if I ran over something I might as well crush it to pieces." She said.

But one of a sudden it dawn on me, I was like, and said, honey I promise never ever to cheat on you
"You better not or you'll be joining that bulb! " She retorted.

H3, 6000K is what I got.

H.I.D. stands for High Intense Discharge.

First I asked myself what color bulb do I want. I wanted the brightest white. I referred to the color chart and saw that 5000K has a lil yellow cast, 8000K has a lil blue cast, 6000K was perfect.

Bulb Color Chart:

Then I asked myself where will I install the bulb, head lights, high/low beam, or fog lights and what size bulb do I need.

H1 and H3 are the same base just that H1's bulb is longer. H3 with it's shorter bulb will fit almost any fog light.

Other bulb sizes available are:

H4 is equivalent to 9003, HB2;
H11 is equivalent to H8, H9;
H13 is equivalent to 9008;
9005 is equivalent to HB3, H10, 9140, 9145;
9006 is equivalent to HB4, 9012.
