i was wondering since i used to have a ls1 ta, i installed a 160 thermostat in it and a programmer and it helped it. I already have my edge on my f150 and i was wondering if a cooler thermostat would help my truck also, i know in this texas heat all the time it can get hott on the egt and cht. would a 160 thermostat help my truck? if not would a cooler one? also what degree are our stock thermostats?
Not sure about your model year but the 5.4 3vs come with a 195 and need at least that. The guys doing tuning have said that these engines are most efficient at about 205. If it were me, I would leave it alone.

what do you mean by help your truck? get it going better? run better/more efficient?
typically the cooler a vehicle runs the more power you can get out of it. if you start getting into tuning, maximum efficiencies, and all that these trucks just can't handle a thermostat too much cooler.
i've always wondered, what if i put a 205* tstat in knowing it will probably open around 195-200? will this help the truck run better?

Definitely do not need a 160 thermostat, especially if its N/A. I have a couple guys that I know that have Lightnings and they are running 170 thermostat.
stevenminix, If you have stock pulleys on a N/A engine then a stock 192 thermostat is good. If you have underdrive pulleys then i would suggest getting a 180 thermostat to off set the under driven water pump pulley. Ive got the failsafe thermostat installed in mine.
I agree with BlueJay that these modular engines perform good with decent gas mileage in the 202-210 temp range
Electric fans(DIY or pre-made sets)...Exhaust(choose you your own)....And if upgrading rear end get a Detroit Tru Trac(set it and forget it) wont hurt either...
just my .02 cents

PM this guy for info on electric fans. He has installed several kits he put together. Knows a lot about them.

some people have been going to their local "You-Pull-It" yards or other junk yards and pulling electric fans from... i believe 96+ V8 Thunderbird... then going and buying a controller..
Here is one that I've seen recommended a lot... Delta Current Control -- Using the, well its been upgraded now but I believe it is the "FK-50P"
You might PM Patman03SprCrw... I think that is the setup he used, but he can confirm or change that...
That should get you somewhere in the price range of $160-$200 total... hope it helps
