The plasti Dip will most likely get messed up because your going to hit it more than any other spot. I did it and ended up peeling it all off and painting them. You can probably keep touching them up with the plasti dip but at some point it will peel.

Looks great. On the running boards, I had mine Line-Xed. They look great and have held up. I have two spots where when it gets hot, it "bubbles" a little bit. Its right in front and behind where the step pad is. The installer said if it gets worse, he'd re-shoot it. But that was one of his concerns with the chrome step bars.

I removed them from the truck, masked the glass and reinstalled, fully sanded them smooth, and had them paint shop painted and cleared.

If you want to make your running boards black, I'd get it painted or line-x. Plasti-dip may hold up, but with rocks chipping your boards - it may not last long. Just my .02 cents.

DarrenWS6, your mirrors are super sweet - smooth like a glass. Nice mod.

Thanks! I will always want painted mirror caps, but on an already black truck the black textured remains on the mirror stand out too gaudy and look very much out of place. Plus keeping up with plastics with trim detailer is too consistent. I am glad I put the effort of fully sanding and paid the price of fully painting. It all flows well. Doesn't stand out very much on black, but on any other color other than navy blue, it would stand out for sure!

Thanks! Do you mean wheels? I hope when I have $1600 to spend that I can order a set of 20" BMF Novakane 6s in death metal, love those wheels! I'd probably keep the XDs for winter as I find waxing them seasonally retains a good finish and they handle salt pretty well.

I'm in the process of blacking out mine

Started with the wheels, headlights, glossy pillars. Plan on dipping the grill inserts and possibly the emblems. Black tails, brake light, and fog lights. For sure tinting the front windows within the next few weeks.

By spring I'm hoping to have PTM bumpers and either remove the nerf bars or get a set of black powdercoated steps.

Darren,
when did you do you mirrors? I have an 09 STX that I considered doing my mirrors and B pillars, but I'm worried about the black not matching from sun fading.

Also, did you have the Ford paint shop spray the mirrors?

thanks

Last October I did. Yes local dealership did them so they have a OEM orange peel finish. It matches just fine.
