I also made an underseat organizer

I saw a posting regarding an underseat organizer made by someone here. I was inspired by his awesome job and made my version of organizer. I tried to purchase a DuHa, Ford genuine, or something like that, but that was totally a rip-off for them to sell a piece of plasticky thing for more than 150 dollars. I tried Wal-Mart to find some cheap plastic baskets that will fit in my truck, but that didn't work out well.

Well, here's what I did. I purchased two MDFs (don't remember the size but it would be close to 24"x36" I guess) that cost me about 10 bucks and 16' of trim (general purpose) that cost me again approx. 10 bucks. I had my tools already; wood glue, circular saw, measuring tape, etc.

It took me many days to get it done (actually it would've taken me about 4-5 hours if I could work straight but had to stop and redo repeatedly 'cause I was just lazy), but I think it was nicely done. I didn't use any screws but just wood glue.

I uploaded the picture on my flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/hughits...7610777269080/

Very nice. I like the idea. You have probably thought about it, but my 2 cents, paint that thing black or wrap some carpet around it and you will have the perfect solution.

Looks good . I think black carpet would look better than just paint . But I'm sure you've already thought about that . Again great mod.

Crafty work! I will agree a little carpet would look nice and probably keep things from rattling around in there.

I know what you mean about working straight thru, i have a sub box already planned out and have yet to buy the MDF and actually get around to building it.
Which reminds me, you better not let the some of the audio guys see this. They may be asking you to build them sub boxes with that nice woodwork you got there.

pretty nice. the only thing i would suggest is to make make the sections removeable for larger gear. you could add additional guide pieces to the sides to that the sections just lift right out for larger gear.

Thanks for all the compliments and encouragement! Yeah, actually I've thought about wrap it up with nice black auto carpet that matches the existing one. I don't know where to find it but will work on it.
As for the partitions, I normally don't carry any big stuff in there, so I decided to go for several smaller sections that will get my stuff better organized. I am now able to put jump cable, punk patch, extra strings and latchets, a wind breaker, two rain coats, etc. I also squeeze my golf umbrella in between the box and the seat.
It just took a bit of time. It was really nothing complicated. If you have a saw (electric would be better of course), wood glue, pencil, wood clamps, and 20 bucks, you can make your organizer for a day.
Let's keep up with good work!

I will try JoAnn (Fabric store) and see what they have. When my bike saddle was torn out, I went there and found leather sheet that I used to re-finish it. Nicely done. I believe they have what I am looking for. Thanks for your idea!
