handgun in your truck?
Quickdraw,
I have my permit in ND. I keep my 9mm in a soft case in the drivers door panel so its right by my hip. Even if your standing beside my truck talking to me you cant see me take it out. The 3 clips are under the case in the panel also. It takes me about 5 sec. to uncase and load. I know thats not real fast but, it works for me.

I have a holster mounted to the inside of the center counsole. The top part which is removable covers it. The holster which is made by Glock to carry on your belt is screwed into the side of the center counsole. I leave the top shelf out of the counsole when I am riding in it. I do have captain chairs. I find this works well. I keep a GLock 30 in there. Nice for quick trips to store or something. I will try to post pics in the near future.

The tree-hugging liberals here in Maryland will not let good citizens exercise their right to carry. only the bad guys can carry.
There is some effort being made to change this thanks to some Carrol County politicians.

it's nice to know i'm not alone when i spout off with my opinions about radar detectors and other junk stuff like how to get out of tickets. i know there are a lot of fireman on the boards, but it seems that the LEO's are reluctant to come forward.
when i was younger i flew to seattle to test for the pd there. hadn't prepared physically, just assumed i was "fit". blew it by one sit-up. man, was i humbled. i now surpass the physical fitness requirements for most states. however, i haven't tried to do CA's test yet to see if i would qualify. i think i'm afraid of a repeat from seattle.
so what type of work do you do? i am a specialist investigating white collar crime for the state. i work a lot of ID fraud/theft, deceptive business practices (theft by deception/communications fraud).
i bought my ford as a result of working as a state ranger for awhile. i had three fords during my time as a ranger and really enjoyed them. solid trucks. and i love the one that's mine.
more handgun suggestions anyone?

Up here I'm only allowed to keep a piece of paper in my wallet that says I have a gun at home in a locked vault, trigger lock on, preferably disassembled with the ammo in another locked box in another room. Don't even ask about transporting it. At least if I have too, I can give 'em a nasty paper cut! (don't laugh, they're coming for yours too)
I thought gun control meant using both hands !

Unfortanetly here in Colorado its the same way. Many remember that here in Colorado there was a law that was working on going through theh house that would allow anyone over 25 who had completed a handgun safety course to get a concealed carry permit. Unfortanetly the tragedy at Columbine HIgh School occured a few weeks before it was to be put up to a vote and it was killed a week after Columbine due to protests from concerned parents. Anytime they try to reintroduce it now they are greeted with "dont you remember columbine?" and its shut down instantly. Really sucks.
Can someone please show me the relationship between concealed carry permits and the Columbine shootings? Is there even the faintest connection there? NOT!
It is so difficult having to live among ignorant people.

I have a 60/40 front seat setup in my truck. I typically carry my pistol in that little spot between where the two seats split. On the drivers side of the vehicle, just in front of where the seatbelt fastens in and just below the console. I leave it in an inside the waistband holster so I can easily put it in my pants when I get out. its concealed, simply and effective. It is not SECURE against theft by any means though. Point being, dont be stupid and leave it in the truck overnight etc...
Also for lots of updated and great Concealed Carry info, check out www.packing.org It is great and has just about anything you would want to know about CCW and all the states.

. It also doesn't help one bit that the liberal news media brings up everytime theres a shooting, "if the shooter hadn't had a gun, so and so would still be alive today" and my least favorite of all, when discussing the new concealed carry permit "statistics show that allowing citizens to carry guns could actually increase the amount of guns on the street!" Well no ****! I think what they should be saying is "the amount of guns in good peoples hands versus the amount of guns in bad peoples hands will begin to become more equal"
Quickdraw,
This kind of relates to your post. I live in SLC and own a handgun. I do not have a CCW. What are the laws that govern the transporting of my weapon? For instance when I go to the range and kill some paper?
Thanks

Utah Code Ann. laws relating to firearms are in the criminal code on weapons (UCA 76-10-500 through UCA 76-10-531).
the easy answer is:
1) do not have it loaded during transport. loaded means that any single action (e.g. pull the trigger) will cause it to fire a round. unloaded means you have a bullet in the magazine or the cylinder but you have to do more than one action to fire it (e.g. rack the slide and then pull the trigger OR rotate the cylinder and pull the trigger, etc.). IT IS ILLEGAL TO TRANSPORT A LOADED WEAPON WITHOUT A CCW PERMIT. (UCA 76-10-505) it's also illegal to transport a concealed weapon on your person on the street.
2) do NOT transport the weapon by vehicle "concealed". concealed means "readily accessible for immediate use which is not securely encased". securely encased means "not readily acceible for immediate use, such as held in a gun rack, or in a closed case or container, whether or not locked, or in a trunk or other storage area of a motor vehicle, not including a glove box or console box". NOTE: immediately accessible has nothing to do with whether the gun is loaded. ALSO: note the exception to console/glove boxes: this is NOT securely encased. if it's in your console or glove box, it is considered under your control, even if the box is locked! DO NOT TRANSPORT THE WEAPON CONCEALED WITHOUT A CCW PERMIT. put it in a box and lock the box. (UCA 76-10-504)
3) if you are ever stopped by a cop (including on the street or wherever, not just in your truck): KEEP YOUR HANDS STILL AND WHERE THE COP CAN SEE THEM, THEN tell him up front you have a gun, the precise location of the gun, and whether it is loaded. if you have a CCW permit, tell the cop about the permit LAST
DISCLAIMER: Although I have attempted to be as accurate as possible without opinioninzing any of the foregoing, please remember that this is a brief summary of SOME of the weapons laws in UT, particularly those most relevant to the question asked. Check your local laws for applicability in your state. You (not me) are responsible to know the law and be in compliance with such.

As always this discussion quickly headed into the laws and rights of people who want to own and carry guns. I have one comment on the whole thing. Join the NRA and Write your Congressman!!!!!!!!!!!

I carry my glock 27 , 40cal. in an Uncle Mike's behind the back in the pants holster now , because my Galco S.O.B. leather holster is way to bulky and uncomfortable while sitting in the seat of my truck . The Uncle Mike's will lay flat aginst my back when the weapon is removed . So now this gives me the option of putting the Galco leather in an upright position in the map pocket of the door , braced into position by a small hand towel folded . I have to draw it left handed and switch hands , but I think this is better than reaching under the seat (or anywhere else) and show that I'm reaching for something if ever I need to draw the weapon . It's also easy to arm myself before exiting the truck and disarm for comfort when getting back in without other people seeing me packing a fire arm . However I'm single with no kids and don't have to worry about the curious mind of a youngster .
