handgun in your truck?
quickdraw -
You might point out to your wife that $80 (or whatever the Gall's option costs) is a small price to pay for her peace of mind and the safety of your child when they are in the vehicle with you. In my opinion, that is worth any price, and I would imagine if you put it in that perspective, she will gladly place the order for you!!!

QuickDraw, you asked me what do I think of the Maricopa County Sheriff???
Your asking about Sheriff Joe Aripio, (hope I spelled it right) THAT MAN IS NEXT TO GOD
I was as a function two weeks ago with Sheriff Joe, he asked what I did for the Gilbert Police Dept, I told him I've been a Crime Scene Photographer for 6 years on a Pager for callouts. Joe said do you want to do that full time, I said when I retire from AT&T I probably will do just that. He handed me his card and said I want people such as yourself, someone who will do it for free, your the kind I want to hire. So when I retire, I'll probably give Joe a call. I wish He would run for Govenor, man the political plumbs woulb be crapping in their pants, cause Joe would clean house.

quickdraw,
I hope you don't mind me saying this. In addition to solving the problem at hand, I think it would be benificial to ask your wife and family members to go with you to the range and instruct them in basic firearms safety and handling. Don't twist their arms trying to get them to shoot at first. Just familiarize them with a weapon. Once they get comfortable with their knowledge of the weapon(s), put something along the lines of a 22 caliber revolver in their hands and go from there. If you can get them to the range a few times and they have a relaxed, enjoyable time, I think they will feel much more at ease being in the presence of a weapon. Most people are afraid or at least uncomfortable with the unknown. Give your wife confidence. That will make being in the presence of a weapon a much less tense situation. Not to mention the benefits of spending precious time with your family. I pray one of them won't have to, but in addition, it may save your one of their lives or even yours!
Over time, people have been taught and conditioned to think that guns are evil instruments of Hell. When in fact, it is the people themslves. If there weren't any guns, people would be getting killed with knives and ball bats. Until the world gets a sense of morality, things will only get worse. With or without guns.

for the record, my wife has been shooting before, and still thinks guns are bad. not because she doesn't know how to use them, but because they are an instrument of destruction. doesn't sway her in the least when you talk about sporting competitions, self-defense, necessary tool in my profession, etc. to her they are still a bad thing. she accepts that i am required to use one, but doesn't like them still. i'm okay with that.
keep those suggestions coming... thanks.

i like sheriff joe, too. that's why i asked. his policies are pretty controversial. studies don't support that his policies are any more effective than the rest of the country, but i'll tell you what, he's one of the few people who doesn't coddle the bad guys.

QuickDraw: First let me say being that you know what a draw is, I sure you know where American Fork is!?? I would like to make it there someday!! I have friends that have gone and said he was nice. As far as the console, I am also a CCW holder here in FL and we can not carry open and that goes for the truck as well. I carry the same glock, but I have the 26, small enough to hide anywhere, that is what I like about that gun! Look into what Matt suggested, a custom console. I would have one made and a specail compartment on the drivers side so I could get to it and it also could be locked( maybe a push button like a trunk w/lock). Screwing it down the truck would prevent theft, but if they want it they will take it. There are a lot of stero shops out there that could do a great job at making one for you, maybe even cheap. Good luck!

for those who have wondered but haven't asked: i have the 40/60 bench seat. floor consoles are out (that's where the police radios and stuff are).
Trippn--
american fork canyon is just south of SLC by, oh, about 20 minutes. it's just north of rock canyon (out of Provo). both are excellent cragging areas. depends on wht you like though; AmFork is limestone so it shreds your fingers. rock canyon is granite and limestone. i prefer the granite. if you ever make it our here you'll enjoy the climbing. utah has so many good climbing places it's almost unreal.

Hey QuickDraw, Yeh, sounds like a nice place to climb, heard there are a lot of nice 10's there, as well as 11's, 12's, 13's...not sure about 14's...maybe 1 or 2?? Granite would be cool, limstone sucks, and hardened sandstone(New River Gorge, WV) rocks! I know someone who moved down there and is living out of Provo....loves it from what I hear. Kenny Matias is his name and he was #1 in Canada for a while...well known up there to say the least. At any rate good luck with your quest!

yep, climbs here are from super-novice to i-can-kick-your-pants-with-both-hands-tied-behind-my-back tough. there are some multi-day climbs too (although i've never done any). it's a nice place to be because of the variety. buddy of mine moved to OH last summer and hates it because of the lack of rock. never heard too much about your neck of the woods... maybe someday i'll be heading that way and i'll have to check out the local scene. come to think of it, my other climbing buddy is from FL. i'll be sure and ask him tonight what's up with the down there.
we're way off topic...

I also have a 40/60 split bench seat and center folding armrest. I don't carry concealed, but do transport to and from the range. I went to my local shop and found a small gun safe that fit quite nicely in back of the armrest. I brought my truck and the safe to my Ford dealer and had them secure it through the floor. Just a thought. Cost me about $90. It's got enough room for some other small and valuable things too. I'll try and find the name for you. By the way, it has finger rests that you push in combination style to open.
i found a nice california hiway patrol handgun in a used car i worked on under the front seat nice 357 mag s&w some one fogot to take it out when they traded the car in
plus i found 3 100 dollars in the owner manule
so dont forget your stash spots when trading in your vehicle

you'd think people would be more concerned with their possessions, esp a firearm. hmmmm.
any more suggestions or has everyone run out of ideas?

98fword: great post--agree with you. have a glock .40 cal. in console. have had ccl for 10 yrs. or more. those of you who ride with your gun unsecured should think about what's going to happen to it if you get purposely rear-ended or run off the road. not saying the console(if you even have one) is the best place but you don't want your gun flying off out of reach. also, join the NRA. guess what this vanity plate is saying: "IRITEI" all ready on the firing-line! renegade
CCW permit here in NC and keep the Sig Sauer 228 9mm or the Mini-cougar 40 in the drivers side door map pocket when alone. If the wife or kids are with me usually stow it in the center console.
She doesn`t mind the guns but doesn`t really like to see them. At home they are kept in safe to keep her happy.
Actually carried the Sig in my Kawasaki Vulcans storage pocket one time. Got stopped at a local license check and told them about it and all they asked for was my CCW permit. They said it wasn`t a problem due carrying it in there as long as I said "I have a concealed weapon and permit to do so. Luckily I have 4 good friends all Police officers in 4 different suurounding counties that gave me all the laws and rules and regulations on CC before I took the classes to do so.
