cjag, pulling out of the first intersection after installing my FIPK a few weeks ago I felt like someone took the elephant out of my truck's bed. Good luck with yours.
Read other threads on this subject, do not remove the resonance dampener(black box) by the throttle body. You have to make some mods to make it all fit. Call K&N tech help
for extra instructions.

I have the airaid which is simular, I really couldn't feel any difference but it was the last thing I added. The other mods did make a noticable difference. If I had done the airaid first the results might have been noticable. I do like the way it sounds and looks.

I installed a K&N FIPK kit this weekend and it seems like I lost a little on the low end! It seems to have a little more HP once it opens up with that throaty sound, but it lost a little "jump" off the line. Has anyone else had the same feeling? Is it because it's sucking in hot engine compartment air?

That would be my guess, that is why we are looking into the velocity tube.

cruzer, I removed the elbow and made a 3" intake tube to the fender well. I did notice the same low end loss, below 1500 RPMS. however, once I get above 1500 and mash it man does she scream all the way 3500 and beyond if I let it go that high. Point is I don't know if this is an air temp issue or just the 4.6L issue with too much air
intake ?

I started with the 3"PVC fender extension until the K&N FIPK became CARB certified; it made some difference. I recently installed the FIPK; nice sound, improved response mostly in mid and top rpm ranges, well worth the money, agreed/gotta open the exhaust to fully utilize. Good Luck !!

cjag,

I put on my Airaid after my flowmaster cat back system. I noticed a significant increase in power. I like the coment from mtknee, I felt the same. Superchip geve the biggest increase in power. Good luck.

Cool

billycouldride-I'd be glad to help you in any way that I can. My exhaust came as a kit; it was intended to hook up from the intersection just behind the Y-pipe, and replace everything from there back (this is the way most cat backs fit, whether or not they include single or dual outs). So, it includes an intermediate pipe, muffler, tailpipe w/stainless tip, and clamps. It fits the factory hangers and included all mandrel bent 3" pipe. There are alot of other nice cat-backs too, and most are on other members trucks here if you prefer another sound, configuration, or manufacturer. My opinion is that it does no good to have one 3" pipe or dual pipes anywhere being fed by one factory 2.5" pipe, so, I removed my Y-pipe also and replaced it. Its the most forward restriction/size that limits all things rearward. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
