Post Auxiliary lighting legality?

Does anyone know where I can find some more info on lighting requirements for auxiliary lights? (i.e. SAE standards, max legal wattages, heigt and location restrictions, etc) I'm guessing it varies by state and local municipality, but are there certain areas and states that require they stay covered, can only be wired a certain way, etc? I read about a case in CA a few years back, but it doesn't tell me where to find either the federal regs, or the state and local regs. Obviously the local constabulary could tell me their policy, but I'm looking for more...) Any suggestions?

GI,

Call the number at the bottom of this site. They were able to tell me all that stuff.

Cool

DAVENSA, you out there? Help. He's a San Antonio cop so maybe he can help. I wouldn't think you would have to keep the lights covered, that sounds ridiculous. I know you can't have more than four on at a time. But oh well, sometimes I run with six on, guess I will just have to take that risk.

BigED flipped his roof rack lights on just for a tiny second the other day just before he pulled into his place. Cop saw him and gave him a ticket for having lights on six feet above the ground. Hummm, they didn't care about him having on his four front Daylighters

I found a site the other night about a case in California... Federal regs dictate the location of the lights, not the number. State and local regs may further restrict them. That's the info I'm trying to find.
I called that Cibie dealer and he didn't have too many exact details for me... I'll try my Sec of State office next week.

Sorry for the red herring, GI. Maybe he was so helpful for me because I'm in CA.

Thanks for the CA info, but I need MI and federal regs... I don't make it out to CA very often (i.e. never).
