I was at this place yesterday checking out
airdams for my truck,and found out that they have billet grilles in black powdercoat. They looked really sharp, very different than the standard brushed or polished finishes. This is the very grille I've been looking for! I'm going with a body color and black look and was told I would have to special order it if I wanted one. I love it,the aftermarket gets more diverse all the time,,,,,,98
Their catalog is nearly 2 inches thick!!

This is first one I've seen,I've wanted a black grille since I bought the truck. Of course the whole front end came chrome,
and I wanted color keyed. I've got the bumper painted,but have to buy a grille shell. I'm not looking forward to cost,grille
shell,billet grille,and paint charge......this is gonna be expensive! Oh yeah,and a full front mask,to keep it chip free:-(,,,98

Most of the metal grilles can be powder-coated in [almost] any color you want. Would look pretty good matching the rims!

Yes it would,If you can get a completely
uncoated grille? I've only seen brushed, polished,and solid colors. Will bead blasting take off powdercoat? Sand blasting would warp a grille before you knew what happened. I guess I could call
around to see if I could get one with no coating at all...Hmmmm..........98

I went to a body part supply place,and bought a plain bumper. Just a plain work
truck bumper,with no trim holes. Then I took it to a bodyshop and had it painted...
all there is to it.. The place where I bought the bumper actually gave me $40
for my chrome one. The whole thing ended up costing me about $260,with the
paint charge. The bumper is an aftermarket,though,not a Ford piece.
It only cost $140 for the bumper,,,,,98

Late reply, sorry.

I haven't seen or looked up-close at any of the grilles, but I don't see how sand/bead-blasting would damage one. If it does, then what will road debris, dust & bugs do to it? Besides, I doubt they have any protective "coatings" from the factory. I've powder-coated the flimsy aluminum wiper arms before. Works pretty well.

 

From what I've seen of most billets,they powdercoat the whole grille black,then polish or brush finish the front edge. Making the back parts nearly invisible.
I think sandblasting would eat right through the aluminum. I saw some guys
sandblast open steel panels on car body parts,they were pretty mad when they found out all the heat caused them to be warped beyond repair ,,,98

I've also seen billets that have taken a rock hit,not a pretty sight(shiver)

I keep hearing everyone talk about these "body part supply places" but I don't know where you guys find these. The only place I know to look at are junkyards, and they only have early 90's F-150's. Can anyone help me out?

I'm in a different city every month,and usually find them by accident,really. You can ask at a bodyshop or even better,at a
bumper rechroming service. Try the plating section in the phone book. But asking an Independent bodyshop is probably your best bet,as 9 out of ten don't use dealer parts. Sounds bad,but there in business to make money,and save where they can. First thing is to look
in the yellow pages under auto parts,new
being in CA,you should find one in no time good luck,,,,98
