Question Tanneau cover ? do I have to remove the plastic bedrail covers

My truck came with the gray plastic bedrail gaurds and I don't want to remove them. Do I have to remove them in order to get a regular tonneau cover to fit right. I wouls probably have to put a strip of the thick foam tape accross the back because the guards cause uneven height. Any help would be great. I need to do this before lots of snow. Model numbers, brands, prices, experiences would be great. Thanks in advance.

Might think about getting the "Snapless Cover" from you dealer. Mounting frame goes inside the bed and on top of the rail covers.
I am very happy with mine.

I have the factory cover. You don't have to remove the plastic rail gaurds. The tonneau covers usually have some type of foam to keep out water. I got mine from Ebay for $125.00.

Really only $125 was it a company or a private person. I would love to get one that cheap.

No need to take them off with Extang's soft tonneaus. They just clamp right on with no need for any additional weather stripping or anything. No leaks, no hassle, no fuss.

I'd suggest you shop around... Not sure exactly what I paid for mine, but I believe it was around $225 delivered. If I can find the paperwork, I'll let you know. I can tell you you 'll find a variety of prices out there. When you compare, just make sure you compare apples to apples.

Cool

I got mine from a private seller off Ebay. Sometimes there's some good deals.

Thumbs up

Got my Extang Black Max (see my thread under "other body" in the Body section) yesterday, put in on in an hour, Looks great, Cost was $225 incl shipping from "partsformytruck.com". The Extang soft tonneau is very well engineered, with excellent installation instructions, and they even include the hex key wrench, the one tool you need to attach it. It has very soft foam under the cab and side rails to assure a seal at the lip you are talking about. Looks great! My dealer quoted something like $350 to install the Ford unit...NFW.

Ordered my Ford Snapless when I ordered the truck, so it was a lot cheaper than from the parts dept. I think Invoice was about $125 or so.
