" Help" Looking for aftermarket skid plates!
My truck wasn't ordered with skid plates and ofcourse I want them. I went to FORD and they wanted @ $180.00 for plates and hardware. I thought that was alittle high considering it was a $150.00 option. I've looked for aftermarket, but not found anyone who makes them. I don't think they would be different between a F150 and a F250LD. If anyone knows I would appreciate it!

Hey funkster,
What skid plates do you get for $180.00? I got the front one from Ford for $42.00. And I'm looking for one for the tranny. Let me know if you find a good deal out there.
Also if you have a camera. Can you post a closeup pic of your 33's. And are they on stock rims? I'm looking at BFG AT's in the 285's but was curious if they "buldge" out.

My dealer quoted me 35 for the front plate. already have the one for the tranny and can't decide if the gas tank really needs one.one more thing the bfg ats tested poorly in a comparison test of twelve different at tires.Pirelli scorpion at won, bridestone dueler at 2nd,yokohama and goodyear ats tied for 3rd. 5th place bfg.

Go to a junk yard. F-150 skid plates are a dime-a-dozen (an advantage of having the number 1 selling truck - tons of parts at the junkyard).
As for the BFG ATs, they are excellent tires (I dont know what comparison that last poster was looking at). The BFGs are quiter and will last 2x or 3x longer than those other guys. Ive seen it listed as tops in wet handling and wet braking also. The ATs are not as good as the MTs in mud, maybe that whats his comparison test rated. Ok, if its mud and snow you have, get the BFG MTs.

Pro Comp makes a great looking aftermarket skid plate. Try their website at www.explorerprocomp.com or try Four Wheel Parts' website at www.4wheelparts.com Hope that helps, by the way I think Squanto has one on his truck, and it looks awesome.
BFG tires are very popular and have been very successful. They are durable and perform well. I think people are too quick to claim that they are the best all terrain tire, though. I have switched from BFG to the Bridgestone Dueler AT and find it to be an excellent tire. The Bridgestone tire is a little cheaper and performs just as well if not better than the BFG AT. Just an opinion.

First of all, I had a set of ATS' on our '96 Powerstroke and they were great. When I can find a tire that is capable of hauling 3500 pounds of seed in the bed, and lets me go places in mud and snow in 2wd that my buddies can't, it ranks well with me. Don't get me wrong, I think BFG is a good tire also, but they are OVERPRICED. I don't have a way of posting pics of my tires or I would. I've got them mounted on the stock rims and that's because I can't find many aftermarket rims for my SEVEN LUGS! I do prefer them on on an 8" rim.
As for the skid plates, there arn't any junkyards close that I can find skid plates for them. Every place I called said they don't make skidplates for the F250LD. I think they would be the same as the F150. The other plates go over the fuel tank and the front dif. I'd be happy to get one that would go on the front crossmember and dif. to protect the radiator and underneath from cornstalks and such!

I get a kick out of these guys who buy things that are overpriced just to have the brand name. The tire test was in automobile magazine about a year and a half ago.The tires were all terrain tires(12 diff.manfacturers supplied tires for this test)They all went through the same tests. If you guys like your tires great, but I will take my pirelli scorpion at for $103 each. They did rate #1 but thats just an added bonus.

I love Dueler A/Ts, they are a great performing tire. I have had lots of luck with them and never a flat when blasting through the desert in my old Ranger (Not the case with the Wilderness A/Ts I had prior). I am interested in the Dueler M/T and if anyone has any info on them. Also, i am planning to get an F-250LD funkster. how do you like yours? I was also going to run 33's on the stock rim, however http://www.americanracing.com does make the "Baja" in a 7 lug version for the LD. And FYI, the skid plates are the same as the F-150.

Desert Spive,
My F250LD has the same problems everyone else's F150 does, but I love it. I didn't think there were that many differences between a 150 and a 250LD, but there are. Aside from the stiffer springs in rear(one extra leaf), I have a 10.25 rear versus the 8.8. I also have a heavier front end (don't remember the size). And ofcourse the 7 lug axles.
I just wish that I could find more styles of aftermarket wheels to choose from. The 33" tires work o.k. on the factory rims, but they perform and look better on 8" wide rims!
