Post Awesome Alarm System, Awesome price!!

Hey everyone,
I've been doing some research on vehicle security systems and have a good deal for everyone here interested. The new AS-4800 alarm/remote start/pager system is the latest and greatest alarm out there. Your remote is actually a LCD display that "talks" to your alarm and shows you the status of your secured vehicle up to almost a mile away. You can remote start your vehicle to either warm it up or cool it down while still in the comfort of your home. This thing does about everything except make you coffee.

The cheapest I have found this alarm is $279 plus shipping. You can see a picture and list of all the features at this site to check it out http://members.tripod.com/~autosecurity/ATEK4800.html

Where I work, I have a supplier that could get me these alarms for around $200 even depending on how many I order and even cheaper if I order over 25 units.

Would anyone here be interested in getting in on this great deal? You would have to have the alarm installed after you got, or do it yourself if you feel confident enough to do it.

I'm not trying to make any money here, just save some money for me and everyone interested.

Cool

Sounds like Spam to me, but maybe not....

$200 is a good price. The unit looks the same as the Black Widow units I sell. Many other companies also sell the same units as Black Widow, just under different names. This will be the "next" unit I'm installing in my truck. I presently have Code Alarm alarm and remote starter, but will be adding this unit to showcase what's available from Black Widow.

Oh, and at $200 a unit, even for just one unit, somebody somewhere is making a profit.

Very nice looking on paper. It does seem to have keyless entry so I am interested in something along this lines for my F250 Super Duty. But the cost of a second remote? Got any idea how reliable they are? And how hard they might be to install?

Definately got a high gadget factor don't it?

Sycoholic,

I'm not SPAMming everyone. By trade I am a cellular phone tech. One of my suppliers is just getting into auto security and is offering a real good price. I've been checking this alarm out and the lowest price I've found for it anywhere is $279. Maybe they are making some money on it, but as long as it saves me and anyone here that wants to get the alarm money, does it really matter? Saving $80 sounds like a good deal to me!

Cphilip,

I called my supplier, extra remotes are $75. Not really that crazy when you consider I lost a remote for a Crimestopper system once and they charged me $65 for a new one, and that was just a simple 2 button one. I would think this system is no harder to install than any other system out there. You don't have to hook up the remote starter if ya don't want to. I just like the fact that the remote is a pager also, and if someone sets off the alarm, it pages you and shows what part of the alarm was set off.

Question

Boss96Hog,

This is not meant as a malicious comment, but what good is being paged by your alarm if you are in the mall and your truck is 2500 ft away? By the time you get to your truck the thief will be long gone. So you would have spent $200 on a alarm system to tell you that you are being robbed.

But isn't the purpose of a alarm system really to detour the would be thief? When you think about it, if a thief want your truck or something in it, they'll get it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I hear a car alarm go off in a parking lot I ignore it.

If having an alarm floats your boat then go for it. Personally I will spend the $200 on gas!

This is just my .02

Ren,

No offense taken, that is your opinion and I respect that.

"I don't know about the rest of you, but when I hear a car alarm go off in a parking lot I ignore it."

This is exactly the reason you would want to get paged! Most thieves don't expect the owner of the vehicle to be running out of the house or where ever you are base ball bat in hand while they are trying to defeat the alarm. They count on people to just ignore them as usual.

Here is S. Florida, 4x4's are almost the #1 stolen vehicle. They get put in containers and shipped to S. America where 4x4's are in high demand. I want every possible chance to stop that from happening. And at 6'6" 320, if a thief sees me rumbling towards them, they are gonna think twice!

I'm only 5'6" and 170 but I have a 357 Magnum. That makes me 6'4" and 230 I believe.

It could alert you that it has gone off because someone hit it and you could get out there in time to get a witness or maybe catch the other driver studying the situation. Just a thought.

If you know that your alarm has gone off that does give you a better chance of stopping or recovering the loss.

You see a movie, 2 hrs later your truck is gone.
Here it would be in mexico in 20 min or so.
If you could know the moment something happens, you go out and its gone, you have that much more time for the vehicle to be found.

I've read that ford says remote starts aren't compatible w/ their passive theft system. Does that hold true w/ this system.?

Powerlifter,

To be totally honest, I'm not sure. I do know there is talk about a special PATS thing you can get to hook into the remote start part of the alarm. It's like a glass tube with some type of coil in it and filled with oil. It gets glued to your steering column next to where the key goes. This is supposed to make the computer think the right key is in the ignition. I need to do some research on this. I don't install alarms professionally, I am a cellular phone technician/installer by trade. So I'm not that familiar with all the new gadgets when it comes to alarms.

Well mine has no alarm at all at this point nor keyless entry which I miss the most from my Larait days. Nor PATs system for that matter as its an F250. I am looking for a system anyway. I just worry about getting anyone to help me install it around here. I am interested though It looks very nice.
