Thumbs down Seat upgrade?????

I have the captains chairs with the driver's electric. These thing are just plain uncomfortable and non-supportive. Does anyone know of upgrades for these seats without replacement. I looked at Stillen. They do seat rebuilds but thet charge $1500. I can but two brand new Recaros for that price and have a better seat.

I would go with the Recaro's. They are a well built seat.

FrankS: I don't want to pay that much for a seat upgrade. I don't want to spend much at all. I am an Upholsterer. Maybe I should try doing it myself.I have already tried the seat replacment route in my other truck. They were very comfortable and supportive, but getting in and out with the big bolsteres in the way was not easy. I sold the seats here online.
Marv1:I had the 60/40 in my other truck. The difference is you have a '99 F-150. They did a seat upgrade in those trucks and the seats are much more comfortable. My dad has a 2000 Super Duty with the captains chairs and his are much more comfortable than mine.

Thanks much.

autonet: The lightning seats look very comfortable but probably more than I want to spend. If you could though, check on that price. Thanks.

ccla: I have put in the Expy center console and would rather have the captain's chairs also. You might try going to the company that everybody here on line has been getting there expy consoles from. They may have some. If you do a search you should be able to find them.

I spoke with my Ford Motorsport Rep and he tells me that the Ford Racing seats are not the actual seats. What they do is re-upholster and build the existing seat up adding the extra bolsters etc. However they cot a FORTUNE to do. BUT I can get the Roush Racing kits which do the same thing but look/feel MUCH beter, they would swing you around $2600 Canadian.

Hope this helps you out.

That would be way out of my budget. I got to looking at my dads Superduty seats the other night. It looks like all they did was to use a denser foam in the bolstered areas and a layer of softer foam in the seat areas. So I got some dense foam from work and I'm going to rebuild by seat cushions with the stiffer foam. It also looks like the adjustable lumbar in the seats could stand to be moved back a little in the fram to allow you to sit in the seat instead of on the seat. I'll try it and get back.

Well, every type of foam I found wasn't as dense as the factory foam or wasn't suitable for vehicles(crumbly). So what I did was put some automotive carpet pad on top of the bolsters on the bottom of the seat and in the area where you sit I cut out an area of foam and put in some softer foam. It worked great! All I need to do is adjust the bolsters a little and it will be set. I'm going to do somthing with the top also but haven't figured it out yet.

Unhappy

I have a SuperCrew (Lariat/Leather Seats)with a similar problem. My driver seat feels like it lists to the left. I would guess it's do to sliding in an out and then stepping down. It must put a lot of weight on that door-side edge of the seat cushion. The foam in the seat does seem to be a little squishy. I have a couple of different mattress factories here in town and I plan on going to see them. They may have some better foam available. I also have a good re-uphoslter shop available as well. Maybe between the two I can get a seat I like.

If I were you I would get a real stiff foam with a layer of softer foam on top of the area you sit. Go out and look and sit on seats in newer trucks. My dads Super Duty has real stiff foam on the bolsters and front area. They are very comfortable.
