just put fans on

well i just finished putting my fans on and i can't say that i can tell a difference in the power but i will say that the fans move some serious air. also i like the fact that i can set the temp to activate when i want. also i want to tell what i spent on everything. $69x2 for the 16" fans $32 for flexalite temp control, and $12 for a 12v relay. can't beat that. i will give an update later.

Who makes the fans you installed? Where did you get them? What size fans are you running?

Thanks

i am not sure who makes the fans but they are 16" fans. i got them at a local shop called steves speed shop here in little rock. they may not be name brand but they are awsome. my only complaint is that they kick on way after i have turned the car off. i think i need to move the thermastat meedle to a different spot. also it makes the engine bay look alot cleaner.

your temp probes should be 1-2 inches from the coolent inlet, and if your fans a coming on after the shut it off you have might have it wired up wrong,....you gonna post up some pics?

I just took mine off at the suggestion of my mechanic. It had them on it when I bought it. I was having trouble keeping it cool when towing through Bakersfield and over the grapevine. I traded someone for a stock fan and shroud and it cools alot better. The fans did not have any shroud or anything. They just mounted straight to the radiator. I think he said that was part of the problem like it didn't use the whole radiator or something.

BOOstAddict, Buy the FAL. They are awesome. I've had mine for about a year and they have been flawless. I'll put one on my next truck as well.

I think someone didn't install those correctly.
Mine mount directly to rad. They are mismatched........1 FAL and 1Derale (both used, but good)
I have two thermostats and one hooked into AC clutch relay.
They move some air, I can assure you. This truck runs very cool.
I would imagine that your truck had fans that didn't move enough air, or didn't switch on when they should have.

x2 my fans work at least as well as the stocker, and at low vehicle/rpm they work considerably better.

You live in Bakersfield and it is hot there, but I've got a blower (adds heat) and pull a 7,000-lb boat to Havasu in the summer (hotter than Bakersfield) without issue.

yeah i have went over that hill in bakersfield a few times so i could understand. i can't imagine that the stock fan can move as much air as the two 16 inch fans. as far as wiring you can't get it wrong unless you are trying. anyhow i like the setup and have trust in it. and i will send pics soon. dont want you guys to see my 39 dollar intake. might think i am cheap or something.

I guess that is possible. The previous owner bragged about them and how good they were. He said he got them through here somehow (that is how I found this site). They both did run and they felt like they moved a lot of air. I can really hear the stock fan when I am driving up the grapevine. They worked OK until I tried to tow and that is when it got hot.

My guess is the fans were too small for the truck. By the way, a person could theoreticaly get a 16 inch fan that doesn't flow as much air as a 13 inch. Size isn't everything. My guess would be that a person needs to cover as much of the radiator as possible (size of fan) and flow as much air as possible (speed of fan). One may have problems if either of these are not observed. Not that I said "may have problems." It is not definite, but possible.
I think that, if I were to do it again, I'd just get a kit and spend the extra $. It would probably be easier to install....not to mention the fact that it would probably look better than mine
