o.k. so which fan???
I put a Flex-a-Lite on mine. I have a 5.4 4x4 as well. Electronic thermostat is adjustable from 180-240F. All connections are sealed and built into the fan. You can wire a manual overide inside the cab if you want. Wiring was a piece of cake. One connection goes to the A/C fan clutch, the others go to a HI AMP volt source and a low AMP volt source and thats it. So far city has gone up 1 MPG and HWY nearly 2 MPG. It warms up very fast now in the winter. It set me back about $200 and got it from a local speed shop. This fan is ultra-quite.

Tough choice.
I'm looking at the perma-cool 14" 2950CFM
Price is $83.00 at www.wrenchead.com
Details can be found here:
http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page16.html
Does NOT come with a thermostat or wiring.
What made you go with the Flex-a-lite?
1MPG to 2MPG is a real savings.
How about HP gain "seat of the pants" since most ppl don't dyno test?

The performance shop I bought my fan from turns out some very nice custom street rods,
some with this fan included. I told them what I was looking for and they showed me several options, but recommended the Flex-a-Lite due to the 5.4 HP rating and size of radiator. This fan comes with its own shroud and covers the same area as the stock fan did. I like mine for it was very simple to wire and make it look like it came with the truck. I can still go back to the stock config very quickly if I have to. As for HP difference, I had a very hard time this PM making right-hand turns off my street on wet asphalt from idle. I never had the problem before my fan install. You can tell there is more available especially from idle.

Here's a cheap solution for a thermostat.
Use a HVAC or Dryer disc type thermostatlike one of these: http://www.grainger.com/cgi-bin/wwgc...ESSION=4419580
I've seen them at HVAC supply places for cheaper and have fixed rating of 200 on and 180 off/ 180 on and 160 off.
$6.00 at your local HVAC supply.
I was even considwering one for the A/C condenser to shut off the fan at HWY speeds even when the A/C is running.
IMHO the fan is not needed over 35MPH A/C or no A/C.
I would want it to turn on when the condenser got to say 130 or so.
I don't have any idea what a "normal" condenser temp is though.
Either that or go with a sail swith that would kick off teh fan at a certain speed.
Here in SC we run the AC 4 months (at least) out of the year. www.foxappliance.com has the disc thermostats too, but the online catolog is a PDF file.

My truck is black and is a heat magnet in the summer. When I kick on the A/C now and the fan kicks in, I have to keep my temperature control near the red zone to keep from freezing inside the cab! It would almost be worth it to unplug my fan’s connection to the A/C clutch to keep it from coming on and let the motion of air through the condenser while driving cool it instead.

That's quite interesting the improved performance of teh A/C with the electric fan.
Who would have ever thought?
I can only assume it would ALSO cool the engine better than stock too.
In another electric fan thread someone stated that at idle the stock fan was pretty weak.
The thing is that the fan is needed the most AT IDLE !!!

You can check out the Flex-a-Lite site; they recommend the model 210 (dual puller w/ thermostat and a/c/ switch). It isn't real cheap though...

Sorry I have been off the board for a while. My fan is a Flex-a-Lite Black Magic 150. I could not find a part # for you. Sorry. I held onto the box for a couple of months after my install but I have since thrown it away. It was the only fan I found that came with everything. (Shroud, mounting hardware, and all wiring) I recomend going to AutoZone and renting a ford fan clutch removal tool. Use two people if you can, one to hold the waterpump pully and the other to torque the fan clutch. Becuse of the size of the electric fan with its shroud, there is not enough clearance to leave the stock fan on even if you wanted to so it has to be removed. Good luck and tell me if you get one.
