Radar Detectors

I have a cigarette adapter from Radio Shack hard wired to the ground of my "power point" and the switched power of the radio harness. From that same cigarette adapter (which is used for my XM RoadyXT), it has a plug for a 12-volt power line that I ran from there to the left underside of the dash, up the A-Pillar, and behind the roof liner to just left of my rear view mirror. On the end of that cable, it is capable of having different size adapters plugged into it. I found the one that would work with my Passport (that has since died). I mounted the radar detector just above and to the left of my rearview mirror.
This put it in a good line of sight, somewhat hidden by people and cops that may drive-by/walk-by. This also turned the unit on and off with the ignition. Very easy to do and only cost about $10 in materials.

The Valentine is all business. And it is not a radar "detector". It is a radar "locator". Once you live with arrows, you will wonder how you lived without them.
So yes, the 8500 is the best detector. But if you want a locator, get the V1.
BTW, lots of sites have posted that the V1 is not programmable. That should even further discredit them. I have mine tweaked. The most notable is that I have the X band defeat turned on. Amazing how much that reduces your false alarms.

my brother had V1... I am thinking about going with the 8500 and ten there is a new one out there..
The Phaser II or Phazer II it is suppose to jam the radar signal comign from the police and supposedly if you get a ticket using it then Phazer will pay for the first ticket with stipulations..

Don't listen to most of the BS you hear about RADAR or LIDAR (laser). It is mostly dependent upon the operator. A detector won't pick up on the radar/lidar unless the operator takes it off of HOLD. A good operator doesn't do that unless he sees a vehicle that he estimates to be traveling over the limit. Otherwise, he's just letting everybody know that he's there. Also, if the cop is not beside you (perpendicular) rather than in front of/behind you (parallel), your speed cannot be detected by radar/lidar. It just doesn't work that way. Radar/Lidar works by measuring the distance from the target several times per second. It calculates the change in distance, then translates that to the speed of the target.
As far as laser detection goes, it can only be used stationary (as technology stands now). The operator must point the laser at one particular vehicle. There is no mistaking which car the reading came from.
Also, you can't buy anything that "jams" radar or lidar over the counter in most states. They are completely illegal in almost every state. If an over the counter product purports to jam radar, you may as well buy snake oil.
Now, that being said, I think I need to buy my wife a V1. What do they run?

Interestingly, Radar jammers are illegal in all 50 states and the FCC really frowns upon interfering transmissions to an authorized user. Also Barney really hates actually having to do some work to collect the donut tax.
Lidar jammers are legal however since there is no law to interfere with light. Photons are not under FCC juristiction. Again however, Office Fife will get mad at having to lay down the donut and doing work. He may get you on the 'interfering with official police business etc' angle since your Lidar jammer interferes with his business - of collecting speed taxes.
