Does anybody have any idea what the different kits draw for amps? I did hear that the FAL kit was one of the lowest draws @28 amps. It's to bad the price has jumped up a lot. Think we can blame the gas companies for making the price jump due to the potential of fuel savings? Seems like anything that does work to save fuel has gone up in price.

as far as the generator issues goes, i have read that many aftermarket efan kits have "trap doors" so that air can get through the radiator and by pass the fan when driving at speed but when at slow speeds or when the fan is on, the little flaps shut. or you could just try eliminating some of the shroud so it doesnt cover the entire radiator.
The flaps sound good, but I am also going to put a diode across the motor so that if it freewheels backwards the currant will shunt to ground. I will post how this works. I have seen the flaps on a lot of shrouds for the air passage, I can add those no problem as I designed the hardware on the shroud so that the whole thing comes out in less than 5 minutes. The Lincoln fan only draws 15 amps at 3500 cfm. I believe that is really low, and the soft start controller eliminates any spikes in currant through the system.

QUESTION FOR ALL

How often do your fans runs and under what conditions? I was reading this and makes me wonder if your not in high heat city conditions or don't tow a lot that these dual fans are way overkill. "An electric radiator fan can offer better cooling and more HP due to the removal of the parasitic drag of the stock crank-driven fan. I chose the Flex-a-Lite unit to the right (part # 270). This $400 unit is specifically designed for the F150. It has a variable-speed fan control (60-100%) and pumps out a maximum of 5500 CFM (much more than the 3,500-3,700 provided by the Ford-based kits). Additionally, by having two fans, as opposed to the single fan in the Ford-based kits, the truck can still run in very hot weather if one of the fans goes out. Not a really big deal, as the fans only come on in stop-and-go traffic on hot days." I'm running a 2800cfm on my modded 5.0 and the fans hardly ever come on and when it does the shut off within 5 minutes and I'm running underdrive pulleys on it as well. I have seen some single 16" fans Model 180 rated @3300cfm and some smaller dual fans Model 295 rated @ 4600cfm. Just looking for some feedback as I think Flex-a-lite has the best designed fans (as far as not damaging the radiator) but I don't feel like dishing out over $500 for a model 270 which seem to be overkill anyways for myself.

My Expy was a street truck, it never went off-road.

I had problems with the steel rod inserts, they wore a small home in my rad. But the nylon ones were fine for me.

The temp gauge would go right up to the red zone, so I'd back off and crawl until the temps dropped.

Update, I put a diode across the motor, but that is not problem, fan is turning in same direction as when turned on. So I guess the LED indicator is just going to tell me that it is freewheeling sometimes. I will call DC controls and ask about this. No real problem as the Lincoln fan is working great. Love the throttle response. And the truck is noticeably quieter. Engine is staying right at temp. My $169 kit rocks bigtime so far.

I made my own mounting brackets and avoided all of the fin problems. Look at my photos under e fans.

What DC Control part number did you use? I've got my Flex-a-lite 270 kit on the way. I am debating on whether I should use FAL's controller that comes with the kit or go right with the DC Control from the get go.

Also. What is the difference with the Flex-a-lite controller and the DC Control?

I used the FK35 controller. It soft starts the fan and does have AC input. I have not heard of anybody having a problem with the DC controller, that is why I went with them. It comes with a temp probe and all necessary wiring.

You wont be sorry, the DC control FK35 is great, simple hookup also. Hardest thing is figuring what the best temp is. I set mine for 202 degrees. So far works great, I am on my first full tank of gas since I installed it, will see what it does for me. The power is definetly improved, and the truck is quiet....

I'm going to be (hopefully) doing mine next week when the fans get here.

BTW, to the people who got a DC Controller, did you get a conformation/shipping e-mail? It's been a day and I still haven't gotten anything

Never mind, just noticed this:
Please note when ordering that we have at this time more orders than we anticipated and so the lead time at this point is ten business days
