Help! - Air Force One install
Hey guys need some help.
Installed my AF1 intake last night, no issues. this morning the check engine light came on... Now I didn't reset the computer last night, so I reset this morning. Then on the way to work the check engine light came back on.
To reset the computer I disconnected the pos+ cable for about 45 minutes. Is that right?
The sound is awesome but its almost to much, I hope once the computer learns the system it quiets a bit... At idle all I hear is the magnaflow (sido).
Thanks for the help.

DO NOT keep disconnecting the battery! Clear the code only with an appropriate tool. Post what the code was.
Read this post, in it's entirety:

This is assuming your installation is perfect - no leaks, etc.
Cheers

good luck, i've been trying to get mine to stay off since i installed it 2 weeks ago, just did the battery thing on tuesday and the lean code is pending in my code reader today.
AF1 just told me basically to make sure everything was tight and then a bunch of drive cycles at various operating speeds/rpms and it will clear, and that it takes time for our 04's to adjust because the tolerences on our maf's are tight, but supposidly they will after some drive cycles.. just dont undo the battery again.. i think that was my problem in the begining because at that time i didnt have a reader that worked (this made me buy one) and the instructions i got said to disconnect the battery and that i might have to do it a couple times..
but they said the truck wont go lean and not to worry about that part.

Thanks for the help guys.
I went to Autozone and ran into the same problem with the code reader that was mentioned in the post linked by MGDfan.
Ok so no more battery disconnects... I do have an Xcal2 on order, hoping it arrives sooner rather than later now. My understanding is that this will open the tolerances up that cause the lean code. I just wish I knew it was the lean code... I can't even check that with out a code reader.
Truck runs and sounds great though...

i started to question my installation and have looked over it several times..it cant be anymore tight or aligned any better..
and im worried to tow my quads up to the u.p. next month with it still on, thats why im hoping my xcal2 gets here before then, even though my papers just got faxed today.

it all comes down to personal preference i guess.

You can reset the PCM by disconnecting the battery (make sure your ignition key is NOT in when you disconnect or reconnect the battery or you could screw up the P.A.T.S.) put the key in the ignition and turn it to run for a couple of minutes. Turn the key off and take it out of the ignition before you reconnect the battery.
If you’re 100% sure the install is correct don’t keep resetting the PCM every time the CEL comes on because this not only clears the code but it also clears the “adaptive strategy” and you want the adaptive strategy to kick in and recognize the changes you have made.
I got a 04 with the AF1 and I never threw a CEL after putting it on. I’ve had to disconnect by battery since then without incident also. Some PCM codes react differently than others to mods, that’s for sure.
I got the OLD school tube

I thought that was the new tube???
Old tube has a 90 in it and sat on the upper radiator hose, the later being part of the reason it was redesign... Remember reading that somewhere???
Not to mention I would be awful upset if that is the old tube as I just ordered and received it this month...

My trucks build date is 9-03 Kansas City. As far as the old tube new tube goes, there are conflicting opinions. According to Mike T’s post, I have the new tube but according to some new owners that recently got their AF1, they have the new tube, which goes over the front radiator hose. Who knows? I do know I am totally satisfied with the one I got that doesn’t go over the front hose and has a more direct rout to the filter so I named it the Old school tube
did you ever get this resolved? i think mine just now finally adapted to the AF1 after almost 3 weeks of it being on there and me trying different things to get it to work.. the most recent was putting a brand new hose clamp on where the tube goes into the plastic bend.. i thought maybe i stripped it and it wasnt as tight as it should be so after that i still got the lean codes again.. reset it again yesterday and today i plugged in my code reader just to see if it was pending yet again.. it wasnt and all the monitors had already done thier tests and i had no dtc's pending which i have yet to see.. normally it takes a couple days for them all to reset it seemed and i woulda had a lean code by the time they were done.. but so far so good..
Rawzon/jpdadeo,
Hey, well my CEL continues to be on... Autozone won't clear the light for legal reasons and last night my truck went into limp home mode... I had to pick up my son and when I restarted the truck it was ok again (cel still on but ok)
Now I have 24000 miles on this sweetie and I don't want to kill her, I'm due an emissions inspection, actually past due... I was hoping my Xcal2 would get here soon rather than later... FRUSTRATION...
I went back over the installation, replaced one clamp... Today is three weeks actually two considering I reset the EMS a week in...
I was going to call Troyer, but I think he is at SEMA this week... I will be in Europe all next week so maybe my tuner will be at home when I get back...

Not good that you still have problems with the CEL but maybe something else is going wrong and it’s not because of the AF1. The (limp home) came on and then went off with a restart; maybe the PCM is going bad. You know you could always put the stock intake back on and see what happens; that’s what I would do to begin the process of elimination.
