Question Expedition Front Bumper On F-150?

Ok. I have seen some Expedition's with the front bumper much like the F-150's but the top is painted to match the truck and it also points out a little bit. I was wondering if anyone knew what year/model Expeditions have this type of front bumper and if anyone knows if the bumper would fit on a 98 F-150 XLT 4x2 Reg Cab Fleetside without any major mods.

Hi Memo!
Welcome to the site!
Well, the 99 F-150's and Expy's share the same front bumper, the 97-98's have a diffferent design. The coor keyed "pad" on top of the bumper is a removable thing that I replaced on my 99 to color match the truck.

If you want to put a 99 Bumper, Expy or Truck, you are going to need the whole 99 grille as well, since that is different too....and I think the headlight mountings are also a little different (IIRC)

K&N Filter, that I think makes a heck of a difference on this motor.
And NOW, a DynoMax Exhaust with 2 1/4" pipes and 3.5" Echo's...looks good...ask about the sound
Future Mods: Color keyed/Chrome Mirrors and the door handles

So the 98 expeditions have the front bumper that points out a little bit? That's the one I want to put on my 98 Truck, but I don't know if it will fit without and drilling. I saw the idea in an ad in Truckin'. If anyone knows if the 98 expedition front bumpers fit on a 98 F-150, please let me know.

memo,

If youre talking about what I think you mean, you dont have to get it off an Expedition. Its the bumper that came on 97 and 98 F-150's with the ORP (and maybe just 4X4). It has two openings for fog lights and a central air inlet. Go to a junkyard or call Ford. I had the chrome part replaced for $300 so the whole thing should be about $400.

Memo... I two months ago did the very same thing your asking about, I have a 98 F150SC Lariat and I also liked the bumpers on the Eddie Bauer Expeditions & F150 4X4 Lariats. The change over is really very simple, what you need to buy is :

1)97-98 F150 4X4 or Expedition bumper (I paid $100.00 at a salvage yard).

2)97-98 F150 4X4 Lariat or Eddie Bauer Expedition front bumper pad, color matched to your truck (I paid around $79.00 at a local dealership).

3)97-98 F150 4X4 fog lamp kit (I paid $235. at a local dealership).

4)97-98 F150 4X4 front bumper mounting brackets (I paid $12. at a local dealership).

5) F150 4X4 lower valance (I paid $47.00 at a local dealership).

Total cost was under $500.00 including tax, but It would probably be a bit cheaper if you can find a complete bumper at a salvage yard with all parts I listed above.

So, to answer your question, yes you can install one of these bumpers without any modifications to the frame or the front end.

memo,

I had the same idea you did, when a friend of mine replaced his 98 4x4 front and rear bumper I bought his front bumper for a couple hundred dollars even though I did not know for sure if it would fit but I knew it was a good deal because it came with the fog lights too. But I called a local shop that buys and sells used bumpers and they told me that my my 98 f150 could be taken off and the 4x4 bumper would install in the same mounting holes that held the old bumper, the only thing is that if you want the tow hooks you have to drill and install them to your frame. I have A 98 F150 STX(sport package) so I sent the bumper to a local paint shop and had it painted. I just got it back the other day and I am waiting for a friend of mine to help me splice in the wiring for the fog lights. I would suggest that you try and find the entire bumper at a junk yard.
