Post centrifigal or roots blower?

I really would like to supercharge my 97 4.6
I like the broader performance of a roots type blower(Eaton) but seem to only fnd advertised the centrifigal type such as Powerdyne and Vortech. I know a couple of people here have the centrifigal units. Does anyone have any suggestions were to look for the roots blowers? does anyone have a roots blower!?

I've seen a couple of roots style blowers advertised for the F150. Just read in MM&FF that Ford Motorsports has a new roots blower out for the 4.6 / 5.4. Also, I've seen an ad for the KenneBelle(sp?) supercharger for the two engines as well. I read an article about a 4.6 with this supercharger and it performed quite well. It was either in Motor Trend or MM&FF. The Aug issue of MM&FF has the ad for Kennebelle and the tid bit about the Ford blower. Just in case you don't know MM&FF = Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords.

Get the centrifigal. It makes more Horsepower as the RPMS go up, and when the rpms are low, it gets better mileage than the roots type. Vortech T Trim is a good choice.

thanks Mike, the new lightning uses an Eaton blower(roots) which is probably the Motorsport unit you saw. I haven't read much about the Kenne Bell units. I think Truck Performance sells them though, Maybe I''l give 'em a call (I did not know what MM&FF was!)

fast,
you really think I ought to go with Vortech? the roots blowers also build power(psi) with rpms, but they start much lower. I read somewhere in this site someone had a Powerdyne unit which claimed 6psi boost, but the rev limiter wouldn't let the truck get to the required rpms to realize full boost! thats why I liked the roots, in particular the Eaton blower. It's a little more work to install, and a few bucks more to buy(ok quite a few more) but...my baby is worth it!

WSECTION,
It was I that had the Powerdyne and was having some trouble making the 6 psi boost they claimed. I had Superchips custom program my chip and now I can make the 6 psi and I don't have to go 6,000 rpm. Overall I am very happy with the blower, but I am still tweaking things some. I may have Superchips increase the line pressure for the shifts or put a Trans-go kit in. I am going to wait awhile and let the computer have plenty of time to adjust. I'm headed on a 2,500 mile trip starting tommorow and will decide some things after I get back and run it on a chassis dyno and take it to the drag strip for some times. I do however wish that I could drive the same set up with the roots type blower to compare. I ran some passes the other day with my G-Tech and am not too confident with what I got but best time was 16.10 at 92.4 mph with 8.34 0-60. These numbers seem a little strange and the other 4 passes were similar. Seems awful slow for the speed. Any way I will know later. One thing I do know is that my mileage has dropped off a little even when I try hard not to go into boost but why have a blower if all your going to do is look at it.
Later and God Bless!!!

WOW!, I really thought that having a blower would post much better times in the quarter, chaplain. I heard that the GPS is not right on exact, I'd take it to the track or shop dyno, I'd be curious to see some closer numbers. I hope to some day (sooner if possible) go supercharged, I want to SHOCK the daylights out of the boys at the track. Would be fun, to sleep on up to the line and pull in low 14's or high 13's, I think its possible what with what I'm now getting with just my current mod's.
Anyways...
Goodluck all.

Question

Cableguy, How do you like the Herculiner? Was is easy to apply and have you had a chance to see just how durable it is?

I would personally go with the Kenne Bell roots style blower. They can produce full boost at as little as 1500 rpm and promote excellent cylinder filling at lower rpm levels. At high rpm, they tend to create more disturbance than the centrifugal style blowers, which don't start working until usually around 3000 rpm. Basically, for the heavy, low rpm beast-a-dons that we're driving the roots blower seems like the way to go.

Darin,
The Herculiner is great, It was a very easy job, even though to apply two coats takes a weekend becuase of drying times. And it looks great, I show my truck and every time people always make the comment "oh a rhino lining"... of course I tell them NOT, I saved approx. $400. Yes it is very durable, I help my sister move and it held up with out scratching through. I did put an extra qt. on the bed bottom and tailgate for this very reason. So I spent an extra $22.00, total cost $123.00 (+ tax).
Good Luck give it a try.

I am considering the Kenne Bell roots type blower. My understanding is that this type delivers more off the line to mid rpm power. My question is: Does anyone have one of these installed? Any one have any general comments. I am leaning this way, because the lightnings are done this way too.
