I bought mine on E-Bay, but it was the OEM Ford camera with the emblem. I then bought the wiring harness and hooked it all up. Well worth it. Don't know how a license plate camera would work. If it were me, I would go OEM Ford. Just my $.02.

Im partial to this camera. The mounting is behind the plate, and only the camera hangs over the the top. It also has tilt to get your desired view.

I bought a similar license plate camera off ebay, wired it to my Kenwood HU and it works perfectly! I pull an enclosed 6x10 utility trailer fairly often and live alone, so I always have to hook-up by myself. With the camera I back right up to the hitch, drop it on the ball and I'm off. No more getting in and out of the truck 5 or 6 times to see how I'm lined up.

I can also monitor the hook-up while driving to be sure nothing - lights - shakes loose. Plus it's great in crowded parking lots and so on.

Could not be happier.

Here's a current link to the seller I bought from:
http://cgi.ebay.com/7-COLOR-LCD-REAR...item3a53dc9609

I bought this 7" monitor with the license plate mount camera shown in this auction (you'll have to scroll down to see it). I think he sells the camera separately for about $99 in other ebay auctions. He is great on customer service - I actually first purchased the camera with a rear view mirror monitor that clips over the OEM mirror. Problem was the mirror/monitor would not fit properly over my F150 mirror so he allowed me to exchange for the 7" monitor and was very easy to deal with.

The camera, as I said, has been excellent. Here's a pic of it at work when I had it hooked up to the 7" monitor:

The picture is color it's just a very black and white scene

The view at night is pretty good too even with just stock back-up lights. Certainly would be better than looking out of your tinted window.

FYI - I later sold the 7" monitor and now have the camera wired into my Kenwood HU.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I recently purchased a 2007 Lariat with factory installed in-dash Navigatoin system. Any recommendations on adding a backup camera?

ive never really liked the idea of the license plate cam since it could be easily stolen.

cool thing i saw once was some one put it in the hole for the spare tire and it looked sweet.

hope the one you got works out. let us know
