Help me pick out a system...

Not sure if this is the sub-forum to place this in. But here goes...

I want to upgrade my '04 XLT's single disc CD system, to include features such as nav, DVD, and digital format playback. My truck has no reverse cam, or nav at this time. So here is what I am looking for...

-Good AM/FM tuner, Sirius addition something I am considering as well...
-CD / DVD playback.
-DVD video playback while driving (for back seat display for kids).
-Support for mp3, mpeg, Windows Media, avi etc... media playback. Support for .ogg / vorbis open source formats highly desireable, but not required.
-Ability to read digital media file types from CD and DVD recordable media, and USB port.
-Excellent highway navigation. As good or better than Garmin Nuvi (which we currently swap car to car whichever one is being used for the trip...).
-Use factory in door speaker locations for upgraded speakers. Any subs and sub boxes must be mounted under front seats. I use the space under the back seat.
-Backup Camera system to display on unit.
-Excellent quality of sound. Not neccesarily highest wattage, or loudest, just good, clean, enjoyable sound.
-Ability to switch to topographic map mode highly desireable (this is a 4x4, and sometimes I am NOT on pavement...).

What do you folks suggest for a system?

Sound systems get very expensive very quickly. If you want a quality unit capable of DVD, nav, camera etc. plan on at least 700-1k on the head unit itself. Adding a quality sounding system with component speakers, a subwoofer, and the proper amplification is going to cost at least a few hundred more. If you need to get it all installed by a profession tack on hundreds more....

So the million (well not that high) dollar question: What is your budget?

I put the following system together and I'm pretty happy with the results.. I did all the installation myself, so that definitely helped reduce the bill!

Alpine iXA-W407-559.00..mechless... 7" screen, built in bluetooth, no cd or dvd player..
Memphis 500.1-269.00.... runs my 2 10's
foxbox and 2 Eclipse 10's.. great deal used from a member here
Boston Acoustic 6.5 SL coax... 65.00... off Ebay new.

I am definitely happy with the sound, the bass, the Alpine is a great unit.. Like I stated... no cd.. but it will play anything thats on your ipod/iphone...

Hate to say it, but i dont think theres any way to get a sub under the front seats. Something custom in the center console seems like the only option for you.

As for a double din/nav, Check out the Pioneer AVICs. If you love your garmin, thats who kenwood uses for their navigation, so check that out too.

Start with the HU... There many price points out there... Choose wisely and do your home work... I like Alpine... Here is the heart of my system, the Alpine IVA-W505...

This is always a personal choice...

I'v got the Pioneer Avic 910BT.I love it.Its hooked to the steering wheel controls..has the sirius tuner..Ipod..sd card for updates and movies or more mp3's...USB input..and I put on the back up camera since it does have the inputs..It plays dvd,s and mpg and avi's but the AVI's have to be on the SD card as I remember..but between the DVD player, usb and SD inputs it plays them all.Its bluetooth and hooks to your phone automaticly with hands free capibilities. As far as the actual navigation I have no complaints.I had a Magellen in my durango and the wife has a tom tom in her smart car and they all pretty much work the same.it has 2d or 3d view and naturally the screen dims automaticly at night.I like the fact that you can e-mail pioneer and they sent me a free update on a free SD card that all you do is plug in and its automatic..and when your done you still have a free 2 gig SD card.I also like the fact that the splash screen is changable AND the color of all the lights for the buttons are changable..I set mine to match the factory green color.

This like always is JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION.

How long have you had this unit in your truck? It looks great when I looked it up on the web and it is a better price than the Kenwood and Alpine listed above. Would it still be your unit of choice for your F-150?
