take plenty of pics and for now if you want just get a cheap stereo on craigs or ebay, even a shaker 500 is can bus so you can try that as well. If you can post extreme detail I will help you out and perform the surgery myself just let me know the parts needed.

I wanted to do this to my 05 Lariat and someone told me it was possible but alot of work. Sounded like a PITA so I'm getting a aftermarket nav around the end of the year.

still no luck

I been searching for three weeks now and still no answers guys. I did learn a little bout can bus, its a pain in rear and pretty hard to encrypt for adapter reasons but mostly rights. The motor companies do this to save money on materials and to lighten the trucks but they also do it so you have to buy there products to make an easy swap. I am still searching though and will let yall know what comes up with all of this can-bus to non-can bus stereos swap.

no they are not the same, actually it will be easy to do in your 06 with factory nav cause your year model supports can bus tech. You should be able to buy a nav out of 05 and up ford/lincoln,mercury and just pay up to a hundred dollars to have it programmed to your truck. If you need one I have one out of a lincoln navigator 07 in mint shape, just the nav and nav cd you can have for 700 bucks plus shipping. through pay pal only, if someone can figure out the can bus bypass to non-canbus trucks i will keep it
