DVD Overhead RES...?

I have the overhead rail system and I'm thinking about getting the Rear Entertainment System.

I'm curious if my 2006 is prewired for it?

How can I tell if I am pre-wired? I read on the Brandmotion website that inside the one storage bin there will be a label that reads "Rear Entertainment System Ready"...... I could find one in mine

However, when I pop off the one storage bin there is a pre-cut retangular hole and a 3 wire connecter just sitting there....... is this what I need? Doesn't seem like it would be enough!?

If and when I decide to go this route I'd like to be able to order the needed harness if my truck is not pre-wired

Any info regarding this would be greatlly appreciated!

Cheers

I was checking out your build from a different thread! I like it and will keep it as an idea! I like the idea of a 10.25 screen!

My biggest reason for going with the OEM System was I thought I was pre-wired for it! But apparently I'm not! So i'm thinking it doesn't make sense to spend over 700$ (System plus harness) to get such a small viewing screen!

Appreciate the feedback bud!

I'll let you know what I end up doing!

Cheers

My truck currently has the rear seat entertainment system. It also has a three wire plug like you described, further up towards the front. One of the overhead rail container options that you can get has an inverter, which I believe will plug right into that three wire plug.

If I remember correctly, there are two plugs that attach to the RSE. I also seem to remember reading that, if your truck is pre-wired, the harness may be pushed back under the headliner to the side. You may want to remove your overhead bins and look around above the headliner to see if it there somewhere.

Thanks Mark! I'll take a look over the weekend! If a truck is pre-wired it is suppose to have a label on the inside of the first BIN... but i'm not seeing it! I'd almost rather look for myself!

cheers and thanks again

Even if your truck is not pre-wired for the factory DVD screen you can still do it. I remember this when I was looking for an overhead screen. If you do a search on here or google you will fin info on this. The reason I went with the Alpine is b/c not only is it 10.2" it also have 1.152 million pixels. This is the best screen on the market right now. A couple of ppl have sat in my truck and thought it was HD. Check out this video below. If your really serious about the factory screen I will get you some info on it or guide you in the right direction with the ppl who can make this happen.

I'm not that serious on the idea! As my Son hasn't even been born yet! : ) Although he is the main reason for considering this upgrade... it will be some time before its really ever used! I rarely have passengers in the back seat, but it would be nice to offer some sort of entertainment!

The biggest reason I am not jumping on doing the RES is because I have been considering trading my 06 for an 09! Until I am 100% certian on keeping the truck, I should not be spending too much or any money on it that might just get lost in the trade!

So far I'm leaning towards keeping it! I have actually NO need for a new truck... just a want!

I do appreciate the feedback!

Cheers

Okay here I am revisiting a dead subject, but I am new and have yet to find the answer I need. I just bought an 06 Ford F-150 XLT XTR Crew. I want to add the factory DVD and don't know if I have the wiring harness. Can I pull my Radio out of the dash and know by what harness are there? If so what would I be looking for? I tried to find a harness above but short of taking out the headliner I'm unsure.......... I do not have a sticker in the rail compartment, but being it is used who is to say it hasn't peeled off??? Please help me. I really dont want to go aftermarket unless I absolutley have to.

For the question is the harness there, no unless it states it on window sticker or the bin has the sticker that says ready for dvd. IF it is not there you can STill GO FACTORY like i did. All you have to do is buy the harness and add it. I just finished doing this and with the harness now available on ebay and other internet places its a breeze to do the intall.( exept for the hardest part taking down headliner and cutting it.,,,very very doable but time consuming) but worth it.

Having just gone the other way in my 2005 screw (running aftermarket deck to factory rear DVD) I would strongly urge you to go the aftermarket route rather than installing factory DVD. It is way easier to integrate an aftermarket DVD into a factory hu than it is the other way around. I basically had to rewire my whole stereo so that everything runs off of the new hu directly (new speaker wire runs to all four doors) and then leave the factory hu plugged in and hidden in the dash. Thank goodness the lariat has a crapload of room in the dash but it's still a really ghetto solution that I'm not all that proud of. The kids can still watch and listen to DVDs over the headphones in the back seat though, which is just SO critical on long trips.

Those are for pre-CANBUS installs, no? The descriptions all say 02-04, which I'm assuming means that this won't work for a CANBUS install.

That said, if you can tell me that I can wire up these two harnesses to a CANBUS 2005 DVD system and it will power on, I'm all over them. Believe me I've certainly tried. And it looks like others have too.
