This is the first time I have had Navi and was wondering if it is worth the 150-230 to get the new disk?

Use the 4P for awhile. If you find areas that are not on the map frequently, you may want a 6P. I've crossed only a few areas with missing info so it's not a really big deal as of now. Sure, I will update, but don't see the need right now. - Og

There were only a few areas in the 6P update. I would personally wait for a few more updates before I bought a new one. I think you are throwing money away if you buy every update.

Where are you guys finding the 4P and/or 6P for your version. I have an '09 Platinum with the OEM Nav system and when I look for my map version it just says 1.0x in one place or ver 65480 in another place. I looked on the NAVTEQ web site and they want $199 for an update CD. Does their update CD cover the entire USA or do you have to order a CD for your state or area?

The version is on the back of the jewel case from Navteq, as well you should be able to see the version on the menu of the navigation system. Not sure about the 09, but my 08 is listed when you go into the menu then select system info. As for purchasing the new map. My wife got it from the dealer... I know its cheaper through eBay, but a buddy of ours retired from Ford so we used his discount...

Your 09 is the Clarion hard drive based navi unit. The 4P-9P is for the older Pioneer DVD based navigation.

Won't work unless you know how to hack it.

During installation you will have to call Navteq with the DVD and Nav serial numbers. The DVD is then tied to your Nav system serial number rendering it useless for resale.

Thanks. I was kind of wondering about that. Makes me scratch my head as to why anyone would buy one off of ebay, unless maybe it was from a 'totaled' truck and you could transfer it to another Nav system.

Because up until now the DVD wasn't tied to the NAV unit.

Prior to 09, it was a DVD based system....no unlock code required. For 09+, the unit is hard drive based and is exactly like installing microsoft software on your PC, you need a activation code. There is no hacking your way around this. If you see a DVD on ebay for the HD based system, it is a scam.
