I need the Eclipse AVN Navi DVD

As posted in an earlier thread someone broke into my truck and stole all of my cd/dvds...

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=277613

the only one I really cared about was the Eclipse AVN5500 Navi Disc....does anyone know if they can burn me a copy, or if I have to contact eclipse?

Thanks for all the input guys...such a great site!

You are awesome...I tried burning a copy of it one time just for the sake of having a backup, and it didn't seem to work with the regular DVD's....but I will be more than happy to cover the cost of the DVD plus some for your time....I called eclipse today and those bastards said that "No the disc isn't covered by warranty." I told them "I didn't lose it, my truck was robbed and I have a case number and everything." They kept repeating the same phrase, like I don't know what a warranty means. Basically it was lousy customer service, and they kept switching me to different people, because nobody wanted to tell me no directly. The cost of getting a new map disc through a store = $300+ dollars....thats ****ing crazy...for a cd I mean come on! So if you find the time I would GREATLY appreciate it!!

I will try to burn it this weekend......if it is a 9gb disc though, I wont be able to burn it as DVDs you buy to burn are only 4.7gb. I will do my best and hopefully it will work. Dont worry about the costs....DVDs are so cheap I have tons of them.

I tried to burn my Navteq disc one and it would not work on the 4.7GB disc. however if your burner is a dual layer burner (Which most are these days) you can get a dual layer disc which is a 9GB disc (Like a real DVD) and you should be able to burn a copy. The dual layer discs are more expensive, but you should be able to buy a set of 10 or so for under $20. Again this will only work if your DVD burner is a dual layer burner. It should work if using the right stuff.

Good news....there is the new update navi disc on ebay for $65 + shipping, or there is another used 1.3 v disc that I might be able to get for cheaper. I might as well get the updated disc though is the way I figure it.

Making a back-up copy

Congrats on finding the disk. I use a back-up copy and keep my original safe. Here are instructions to make a back-up copy.

You'll need a PC with a dual layer DVD writer, a DVD +R DL (recordable double layer dvd) that will handle 8.5 gb (ex.-With Vers 2.0 you will have about 211 mb after backing up), and finally you'll need at least 10 to 12 gb free hd space on your pc.

1) Make a directory on your PC call C:\NAV.
2) Insert original NAV disk into your writer.
3) Copy all files from the original nav disk to your file folder C:\NAV on your hard drive.
4) Using a DVD writer program such as Nero, Roxio, etc. that can write dual layer data disks, select create a data disk.
5) Add all the data files and the 2 folders in the NAV folder. Do not just add the NAV folder, just the files and folders within.
6) Optional - Change volume name to match your original.
7) Burn a finalized data disk.
8) After about an hour you should have a backup disk that your thief can steal in the future rather than the original.

Probably other ways to do this, but after many trials this was what finally worked for me.

50 bucks...
Use nero or similiar application
Use disc copy and you wont have to waste time writing to your hd like that... it creates an exact image file then burns it to a disc
