need ideas on in dash dvd player

like the title says.

i'm looking at getting an in dash dvd player for the truck. i don't want a fold out flip up screen whatever they're called, i want a flush mount.

not real concerned with the navigation part however i want to be able to add it if i feel like it later on down the road.

so give me some ideas on what you guys have, pro's, con's, and if possible some pics of them installed

Alpine IVA-W200 or the new IVA-W205. It is a great piece. The W200 has a dock available to connect the Alpine Blackbird. The W205 has a built in dock slot that allows you to slip the newer Blackbird right in the slot. I love my W200 and Blackbird. I like the Blackbird because I can take it in any vehicle I want. Great for trips with rental cars.

Eclipse has navi built in to all their double din units, I think. Pioneer makes some great units. Kenwood units allow you to add navi later. So does Clarion's double din.

It just comes down to personal preferance. I like the Alpine because it allowed me to use the H701 processor for 5.1 setup. Eclipse does not or I would consider them. Pioneer, Kenwood, and Clarion all have 5.1 processors but, I just think Alpine is a step above them.

Pioneer don't have 5.1 on the indash units, least none I have been able to find. They do have a 9 channel preamps on their flagship unit but it's a pop out. Most flagship units tend to be pop out.

Far as in dash goes if you have a IPOD that Clarion max675vd looks very impressive with native 5.1. IPOD interface is the best I've seen so far. The Alpine d is talking about is very popular around here. I've had bad luck with Alpines in the past so someone would have to give me one to use.

What kind of budget are you looking at? Do you use a IPOD? Do you want 5.1 surround sound? But like d said it's pretty much personal preference. Just stay away from the really cheap brands like BOSS, Dual, and so on.

Doesn't Pioneer make an external processor box though? Like the H701. What's their new double din without the navi? It is just a DVD unit. I think it supports the external box.

hmm maybe. When I was looking for units I wanted native 5.1 support and pioneer didn't have any then. I just looked again and just seen the 1. One good things is there are more 5.1 units out now than just a few months ago.

This is the one I was talking about:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...671418,00.html

6 disc indash dvd changer. It allows hookup of their processor. I like it alot. 7" screen too.

i don't have an ipod nor will i ever have one in the near future so i really don't care if the hu has that option.

i would like to stay around $1000 but doesn't really matter, just sold my mustang and have a nitrous kit i can sell for additional funds if needed.

i assume have 5.1 in the vehicle means that each speaker puts out different channels or whatever (just like in home theatre)? i don't know too much about car electronics.

really just want something that looks good, preferably 7" screen and fits nice and flush.

just went and looked at some models at best buy and circuit city and all of the units (alpine, dual, eclipse, whatever) froze up when i played with them. i guess that's from people constantly messing with them and being on all the time.

if i find something i like can i go to pricegrabber and print out the lowest price adn take it to best buy where they will match it?? i believe i read that on here a while back

You'll get better prices online. One of my favorite online vendors is www.onlinecarstereo.com

Take a look at this Clarion, Kenwood, and Pioneer. It's more common to see 6.5" in dash units than 7". So if you'll take a 6.5" then you'll have a wider range of players to choose from.

the clarion 675 looks pretty slick but i've never heard anything about clarion . . . as in good or bad.

i was leaning towards the alpine w200 b/c i heard they make a good product

hell they're roughly the same price but the clarion has a 7" screen as opposed to a 6.5 (like you'd be able to tell that big of a difference)

looks like the clarion has a lot more bells and whistles, is that just me? i doubt i would use everything that it is capable of doing

made up my mind last night to go with the clarion

now just need to figure out where to order it from,

found one on ebay, new in the box, for 640 shipped, however onlinecarstereo had them for 720 i believe

as long as i'm not hooking up a processor or any thing crazy like extra monitors should i be able to install this thing myself??

i know i need a wiring harness but is there anything else i need??
