Hey cwilley. I saw on your site that u have a Treo 650. We pretty much have the same stuff, Treo/Sprint, and this weekend I'll have the D1 along with the 6 Disc changer. I'm curious to see if the changer will work with the brake on/off trick.

UPDATE: I was told by an installer that the park brake trick will allow you to watch a video for only 6 min? Can anyone confirm this?

New Here. I was wondering if anyone else has had any luck with Dragon Keepers Method (Or if you can go into a little more detail about the process Dragon, I would appreciate it).

""I have just had one put in my 05 Expedition and the installer has it rigged so that I can watch movies while i'm driving. If you select AV on the HU a screen will pop up that says stop the vihicle, press the emergency brake, release the emergency brake and then press the emergency brake then hit OK on the screen. After you hit OK you can release the parking brake and have the movie on the screen. You will still need an seperate DVD player because the D1 will not play movies.""

I tried it with my new Avic D1 and have not been able to get it working while driving doing excactly what Dragon said to do with an external DVD Player. I did have the installers put the emergency brake lead on a switch, so I wouldn't have to engage my parking brake while driving. Maybe that is the problem, but the switch just grounds the parking brake lead, so I don't see why that would make a difference.

In addition to MCXStar's question, does anyone know if you can operate the NAVI functions while in motion?

I'm about to pull the trigger on one and found this:

CWilley and Dragon, any comments?

Thanks!

OK,
I decided S-Crew it and took it in to install. I was goint to buy from JJI but they are closed today so I am having a local shop install the unit.

He claims that a "bypass" kit is being worked on in the aftermarket and may be available soon to watch video while in motion. We'll see...

I'll post my impressions of the unit in a few hours (if I'm not driving around enjoying it!).

Smile Avic-d1

I found that SBHcorp.com is selling them for $1104.00. I ordered mine but haven't received it as of today. They have them in stock.

Hey cwilley,

Which Motorola bluetooth unit do you have? I am looking at a Motorola S9642C BTHCK100 on Ebay (item #5787242794) and I wanted to know if it allows you to voice dial the numbers stored in the phone (voice tags) not just the Bt unit's memory. I have 500 in the phone and the unit says it has 100 internal capacity.

Thanks!

(I also emailed you. I hope that's OK)

I get the same message, but what I do is set everything up before I start my travels and then you won't have to do it again until you turn off you car and start it again.

Hello everybody -

Sorry for the delay in my response; been way too busy lately. Hope you all had a great 4th (seems like a distant memory already, huh?).

My Motorola Bluetooth unit is the 98500. I hate to admit it, but I haven't even really learned how to use it yet. I use it every day with my Treo, but I have not learned any of the advanced features yet. I know it does offer voice dialing, but I believe that it is limited to 100 numbers. I'm not aware of any way that it will automatically allow you to tap in the phone's internal database of numbers. I have voice diaing software on my Treo, so when I want to make a call I just speak into the Treo.

Lariat4xScrew - that was quite a post from the is300.net website. It will take me some time to really digest all of his comments about the AVIC-D1. I do share some of his complaints (I really hate having to listen to 30 loud BEEPS while I raise or lower the volume - a **** would have been great!); but I am not nearly as dissatisfied with the unit as he is. Overall, I love the unit. Like him, I have years of experience with various navigation units. One thing I have learned is that many common issues are fixed with subsequent map upgrades; so we just have to have some patience with a newly-released unit (someone has to be the guiney pig). For instance, I also hate that I can no longer glance anywhere in my truck to find out what time it is!! Major oversight! I am confident (hopeful, at least!) that this will be fixed in the next release.

Okay, that is all I have time for now. I am heading out the door to San Diego (driving, so I will really get to test my AVIC navigation!!). I will be gone a few days and will check back in when I return. Have a great weekend!!

Chris

Cwilley,

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't able to find out ANYTHING from the net on that Motorola BT unit in detail re: the phones voice tags. I'll pass on the Ebay units until I find out more.

As for the D-1, I love it overall, although I have yet to get my NAV Traffic XM box installed yet. The installer had to order and is now backed up for a week!

The navigation is great but I also share some of the gripes about the unit as well.

I would prefer a **** (although I disabled the beeps) to adjust volume. How about a simple "Mute" button too. What's up with that???!!! (One of the reasons I want the BT unit to auto mute for calls).

I don't care about in-motion DVD viewing but I HATE not being able to NAV while in motion. Before the flaming starts - I know why they do it but taken to the logical extreme, why let the user adjust anything if it's so distracting.

Is entering an address any more difficult (I'd say easier) than using the vicinity search which is only so-so IMHO? It is FAR easier than adjusting the balance, bass or treble or a hundred other functions this thing allows while in motion.

Just trying to change radio bands from FM/AM involves touching the screen (and pushing the AV button first if you are in map mode) then pushing the "Band" button 3 times to get to AM. Shouldn’t there be a simple button on the front for that?

Overall the sound quality is good, NAV is excellent and screen is beautiful.

I hope many of our gripes are corrected in future software releases and at NO CHARGE (here that Pioneer) or low cost.

Also if ANYONE comes up with a way to bypass the AVIC D-1 so that it still functions and the NAV works mo' betta while driving let me know.

AVIC-D1 Hookups

For you guys that have the AVIC D1 installed,

Can you hook up the steering wheel volume and seek controls to the D1?

I have heard of a interface that will hook up in between the steering wheel controls and a deck.

Yes. Mine is being installed tomorrow. $100 at local shop installed. I think it's a PAC switch brand but not sure yet.

Sweet, thanks for the answer.

are you getting the back up camera? if so where are you thinking of mounting it?

A guy on another thread mounted his in the tailgate handle, it looks slick. but i dont think its the pioneer camera.

Back up camera is next. I'll install myself and am researching cameras now. I was thinking of the handle too. I'll keep you "posted".

Hey Lariat, can you elaborate on not being able to NAV while in motion.

Does the D-1 prevent you from changing Nav views in motion?
Does it prevent you from changing your destination while in motion?

Thanks Jenerator.
