Dude you should of hollered we might could have met up in Columbia or Lake of the Ozark or some where for a few hours. Either one would have been about an hour or so drive for both of us. Probably could have gotten Green_98 to join up too.

I'll have to hunt you guys down... you all can show me some of the local flavor.

I've found a couple of state parks that were pretty cool. The Johnson Shut-Ins and also Elephant Rocks were enjoyable. The Shut-Ins were really cool... I'd really like to see them when the water is up and moving. I bet it's impressive.

Like I said, I'm going to be in the area for the better portion of 2 months managing some remedial clean-up work. Our job trailer will be in Viburnum (about 30 mins south of Cuba off of the interstate or 40 minutes away from Salem or very near Bixby). I'll be working my nuggets off but, I'm sure I can find some time to get away (pending I'm in cell coverage so that they can find me -- I think my cell is going to be a ball and chain).

Lucky me, my next door neighbor at the job trailer will be US EPA Region 4. I guess we'll be sharing a port-a-potty.

If you like nature almost every county has a pay cave open to the public in this neck of the woods. There are 1000's more but are private owned. From cuba take I-44 west 79 miles and your to me and Bennet Springs State park. The another 45 mins north and you at Lake of the Ozarks Mo. (Great place to hang out and see a variety of sights) Or back on I-44 go another 30 mins on I-44 and you are in Springfield several neat parks and a civil war battle field plus fantastic caverns (a ride through cave) there.

Edited to add:
Elephant rock isn't to far away from St. Louis in St. Louis there is an automobile Museum suppose to be pretty cool. I'm going there in 2 weeks so will beable to vouch offically then.

thats a pretty far drive for me right now...im in Warrensburg, which is 50 miles east of KC. I was partyin it up in Columbia friday night... i go in there often to visit a few lady friends....

Me and the boys are thinking about a weekend trip down to Bennet Spring here sometime in a couple weeks before finals and last minute projects hit. I love going down there--out on the water at 5:45, fish till breakfast, fish some more, putt around in the pickups, then back to the cabin for beer...

I've been around to a few of the caves in that neck of the woods. Having gone to Western Kentucky Univ., we were in the HEART of cave country and thus, I've done some research projects on adjacent states' caves. Further, I actually worked at a small private cave in Bowling Green called Lost River Cave. I'm actually in the picture on the front page of their site. You can't tell though...

Honestly, I'm kind of caved out. You can only look at solutioned limestone/dolomite etc for so long before they all look the same. LOL! Hell, I actually held keys to Mammoth Cave National Park for a brief period during a research project (want to see some paperwork? obtain keys to a national park!).

I'm definitely up for some of the local flavor though. Anything to do in Rolla? It is a college town but, after two trips there (one last week), I can't seem to find JACK to do there...

There is a great Bar-B-Q joint there but other than that it is pretty well LAME. I can not figure out why because it is a college town you would think that there would be some clubs and places to hang out. But I guess St. Robert has all of them because of the base. So I'd say that the college students go there instead. It's only about 20 mins away.

I totally understand man...

I'm lucky enough to have a company rental and a company credit card for the fuel. It's definitely a booger right now.

You two are right about Rolla... it does blow. We ate at Zeno's one night; talk about an over rated restraunt. Blah! What a total let down. I would've been happier at McDs! (and that's really bad).

I think we might stick with Pizza Hut and a local place we found last trip in Salem. Pathetic sounding I know but, it is consistantly decent food...not great, just decent.

A barley pop or two and a pizza is still pretty hard to beat.

hi, my name is bob and I have a drinking pro errr wrong forum.

just kidding, newbie here and thought I'd post in here and say hi. Not sure if anyone saw my post in the supercrew section. I own a 01 F150 screw lariet, with the offroad package. I bought it last june as I needed a bigger truck that was able to tow more and just needed more room in the truck. So far I really enjoy it, my only complaints about this truck are the engine size(5.4 liter) and the bed(6 footer), I really wish I had gone to the F250 and gotten a diesel with the 8ft bed. This truck will probably stay stock as it's a daily driver right now and the only offroading it will see is a gravel road.

I traded in a 99 ranger with a 3" b/l and 33" muds(was a sweet truck) but it bogged down with only a 1000-1500lbs trailer.

anyway here's a pic of my truck
