Was told about a recall :fyi:

I'm taking my truck in for service to Walnut Creek Ford because I have a knocking sound around the oil pan area. I think that is maybe a bad Crank Bearning (lets hope not), the service guy told me that they have seen a couple of Lightning's with this problem. Also while talking to him he asked me if I had brought my truck in for the intercooler recall and I asked what was the recall for and he told me that intercooler fluid could leak into the oil pan and cause some damage to the crank and rod bearnings.

Just letting you guys know to ask your Ford dealership about this because I never got a notice of this recall. I don't want to see this happen to any other L owners.

Just a side note my truck only has 2000 miles on it and this problem has already happened.

yea there was a recall on all 99 00? L's, intercooler leaked, but most people say it was harmless and that it was just blown out of the exhaust. never heard of it getting in the oil though?

Intercooler recall

Back me up guys, but the recall was ONLY for 99 & 00 models. Don't let them touch yours. You didn't receive a recall because you didn't need one. Later

Sorry to tell u,

This happened to a friend of mine on his 2000 and it was a leaky intercooler, When my brakes piled up on my 02 caused by the ABS module in June there was 2 2000 Lightnings in the repair row out back waiting for bearings.

Well the service guy told me that because of the knocking coming from the oil pan that either one of two things will happen they will fix the problem or I will be getting a new motor.

He just told me that they will check to make sure that everything is ok with the intercooler. He didn't tell me what years that it effected.

Walnut Creek Ford will probably just replace the motor and not bother with trying to fix it. They have a good SVT tech and have always done good work on my stuff. The two times they made mistakes (minor stuff), the problems were fixed quickly and offered incentive$ to keep my business.

If you meet Theresa, tell her George with the Red/White Lightning said "hello!" Vic also knows Lightnings well and will take care of you if he is your advisor.

Theresa's always been good. I've been with Dreyson for awhile now, and he seems pretty competent.

Are you the silver L around, that's lowered in the rear?

I've never EVER had a problem with walnut creek ford, and in fact, through all the mercedes, BMW, and toyota dealerships I've dealt with, Walnut Creek Ford is far above the rest. They're the best service department I've yet run with...

I wasn't aware of any intercooler recall. When did this happen? I had heard about a customer notification and problem with intercoolers leaking, but not a recall.

Your dealer is mistaken if they said the intercooler fluid will leak into the oil pan...

True, but hey, if they fix a knocking rod and blame that I doubt if he cares.

Well Dan called me and told me that he has had to order me a new motor and the truck should be ready for me to pick up either this coming friday or just before christmas. So I'm getting a new motor and the nice thing is that there was no question.
