Was told about a recall :fyi:
Well I just wanted to update everyone about what is going on I spoke to Dan @ Walnut Creek Ford and he told me that they spoke to some people from higher up in Ford and they told them of the problem with my truck and Dan was informed to run some carbon cleaner thru the motor and as a result of that he stated that the knocking sound in the engine was gone. He then told me that if it does come back then at that point then the motor will be replaced. Also asked him if they recommened any certin gas I told him that I use Chevron 91 all the time and he told me to keep using it.
My question is that because the truck is not driven everyday could that have some effect on the carbon build up because the truck is driven on the weekend and then sits all week and is never started?
Thanks

I believe that they are saying that carbon buildup on the pistons got to the point where it was actually contacting the combustion chamber, not knocking in the "spark knock/ping/detonation sense" but knocking in the "rod knock sense". one doesn't sound like the other at all.

I had my inter cooler replaced on my 2000 L they up graded to the 01 cooler which I was told has better porting. It's been almost 2 years now and no more trouble. The problem with the inter cooler was porocity in the cooler.

Yes that was mine (well my dads really I just get to drive it sometimes).
Well here is the update my dad said that what Dan told me sounded kinda fishy about there was carbon built up causing the knocking in the motor so he called Dan and asked some more questions and come to find out Ford's Tech hotline is the one that told them not to replace the motor and just run some carbon cleaner though the motor. Also my dad asked Dan if he could promise that there was no more knocking in the bottom end and he said yes and then my dad asked if the oil pan had been taken to check and make sure everything in the crank, rods and bearning looked ok and he stated no the oil pan had not been taken off yet.
Now the truck has 2037 miles on it and if there is a knocking sound now then there has to been something wrong with the motor so my dad is going to call Ford tomorrow and talk to someone and find out what the hell is going on.
Just an FYI my dad worked at Ford for 10 years back in the 80's so he hates that fact that he doesn't have any of the scan tool to work on the lightning being as they didn't have the lightning around when he worked there.
I will keep you updated.
Thanks

dealerships can't just go around throwing in new motors as they please. they are REQUIRED to contact ford... SCRATCH that, depending on the motor, but I believe on the 5.4L engines, if the repair would cost less that $3500 then the dealership has to repair the engine in the field. if the repair would cost more than the $3500 cost cap, then the dealership has to contact the tech/engine exchange hotline, at which point they may send out an inspector to verify that a new engine is needed. if it is determined that a new engine is needed, then they must give AUTHORIZATION to order a new or reman motor.
P.S. you and your dad are talking to a service advisor who probably doesn't know jack crap about what is wrong with your truck, except what he/she is being told by their technician who also may or may not know jack crap about what is wrong with your truck, and may only know what he/she is being told by Ford who also most likely doesn't know jack crap about what is wrong with your truck since everyone is just communicating via phone.

Thanks Chris you are more than right well my dad called ford customer care this morning and Dan said that they would pull the truck back in and do some more test. The thing that i don't understand is that on Wednesday DAn called me and told that in fact that bearning was bad and told me also that he had another motor on order and now all of a sudden on the 16 of Dec now they have all of a sudden fixed the problem with some carbon cleaner. I don't think so, well I guess I will wait to see what happens with the second trip into the shop.
This is turning into a drawn out process just to get my truck fixed they say they at technicans, yet they think that some miracle fluid is going to fix a knocking sound in the motor.
Also Dan told my dad yesterday on the phone that the motor should have some piston slap in the motor. Has anyone else heard of the lightning having piston slap?
Thanks
