Post Oil change question

I am looking to change the oil in the L this weekend and I need some advice.

Should I take it to the local SVT Ford store and wait an hour to have them change the oil?

OR

Should I take it to a quick lube place (Jiffy Lube) and have them do it in 15 minutes? Plus I get to sit in the L and don't have to hand it over to anyone.

Has anyone experienced any problems getting lube, oil, and filter at a quick lube place?

Thanks for the help.

PS - For the guys in the NW, I am looking at taking it to Oil Can Henry's.

just buy a jack and do it yourself. I would never pay anyone to change my oil once I learned how. Its very very simple to do, you can take the used oil to a autozone and dispose of it for free. Its either pay up to 60 bux for a synthetic change or spend 26 bux + 2 bux for a oil filter and do it yourself....but thats just me. Any of those places you mentioned would be fine if you dont want to do it, really doesnt matter who does it as long as you can watch them like a hawk the whole time

Just do it yourself, no problem.

All you need is a catch pan, a filter (motorcraft 820s) and some mobil 1 synthetic.

If your not lowered you really don't even need a jack, just slide under. If you need an extra inch or to park the front wheels and piece large piece of wood.

Is there any way to change the filter without a quart or so of oil draining out behind it? Its terrible, i thought this remote mount would make it less messy.

I've let the dealer do it (free) a few times. I've been to the Jiffy Lube a few times too. Now a days I just do it myself. Never had a problem with anyone.

HOW TO CHANGE OIL

Jack up the truck (if needed) , let cool if you just drove it or the oil will be super hot.

1. take off oil cap under hood
2. place pan under oil plug under truck
3. use ratchet to take off bolt (plug) from oil pan, I only loosen it with the wrench then keep upward pressure on the bolt as you remove it by hand. This keeps the oil from running out while your unscrewing the bolt.
4. Pull out bolt and let the old oil drain into the pan
5. when its done put the bolt back in
6. put pan under oil filter and remove the filter while keeping the filter upright, or it will be a bigger mess than you want
(strap wrench recomended, and yeah oil comes out no matter what)
7. put the filter "hole down" on the pan so it drains before you pitch it out
8. put oil in new filter, and screw it on
9. then just add your oil, 5.5 quarts recomended over the total 6

have fun

just make sure if you have someone else do it (i do just becuase im lazy, but i do watch them like a hawk, and i work next door to the place and they give me a good discount) make sure they give you a good damned filter, none of that penzoil crap filters (or fram) just go ahead and spend a few extra and buy a mobil 1 filter. make sure they give you good oil too, no watered down crap like penzoil (once again), mobil 1 or royal purple full synthetic are the best, i like castrol gtx best for real oil.

Excellent, but you left off, just one thing............
pre-fill the filter before you screw it back on the truck. First place the oil goes after the pump picks it up, is to the filter

Step 8 covered it.

I just did mine last night - so I ran back out and took a pic for the people who don't know what is being talked about.

go under your L, look for the oil pan plug (center of pic) and oil filter (white thing)

https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=2088

follow above posted instructions - step by step. If you are careful removing filter - you won't spill more than a few tablespoons of oil - you can also take a zip lock bag and place the bag over the filter (like a glove) while you unscrew it - no fuss no muss. just make sure the drain plug and filter are tight snug after you have drained oil, and put new filter on!

You should also lubricate the filter gasket with a very small amount of oil. Just wet the end one of your fingers with the oil and smear it on the gasket. Also hand tight with the filter is good enough.
