thanks for all the replies

I might just change my own oil now.

Someone mentioned using Mobil1 filter and Mobil1 oil. Do others recommend this also? My L has almost 4000 miles, is it too soon to go synthetic? What synethetic should I use?

I use the K&N Gold oil filter as it will be easier to remove the next time as it has a 1" 'nut' on the bottom of the filter. It's a high quality filter too. As sommone else said, do put a light coating of new oil on the filter's gasket before you screw it on.

I changed over to a full synthetic(see sig.) at 4,000 miles. I now have 39,200 miles on it with no oil-eng. noise problems.

Oh no!!!!!

Great instructions, but you forgot one of the most important things. Put jack stands under the vehicle before crawling under there. Hydraulic jacks have been known to fail or a slight shift of the vehicle can sometimes make it slip off of the jack. Go to Fred Meyers or GI Joes and pick up some jack stands and place one on each side, underneath on the frame and then lower the jack down so that the vehicle is now resting on the jackstands. I don't want to hear about any unfortunate accidents happening. It's also a good idea to use a block on the rear wheels to prevent it from rolling slightly. Changing oil, is one of the simplest jobs and should only take about 15 minutes. Good luck and have fun.

If you're looking for a good place to get oil changed, you might want to try Alto's Lube Express out on Hwy 99 in Sherwood. It's at 6 Corners and they take excellent care of their customers. It's located right behind the gas station

HOW TO CHANGE OIL

Jack up the truck (if needed) , let cool if you just drove it or the oil will be super hot.

1. take off oil cap under hood
2. place pan under oil plug under truck
3. use ratchet to take off bolt (plug) from oil pan, I only loosen it with the wrench then keep upward pressure on the bolt as you remove it by hand. This keeps the oil from running out while your unscrewing the bolt.
4. Pull out bolt and let the old oil drain into the pan
5. when its done put the bolt back in
6. put pan under oil filter and remove the filter while keeping the filter upright, or it will be a bigger mess than you want
(strap wrench recomended, and yeah oil comes out no matter what)
7. put the filter "hole down" on the pan so it drains before you pitch it out
8. put oil in new filter, and screw it on
9. then just add your oil, 5.5 quarts recomended over the total 6

Konig, you did an excellent job of listing step by step.
Instead of jackstands, have you tried Rhino Ramps? Very light and they clear the ground effects

Yup. Get a second pan or container. Get a hammer and a punch and punch a hole in the filter. The oil in the filter and remote mount lines will drain.
