Rusty Wallaces 99 Lightning
A hay rack is used on a farm to transport hay. A farm is where your food is grown. Canada ey? I know where they are built, USA still sees the revenue.
Anyway, enough bickering.. I tried to resist this time but it's too fun

[B]Quality??? Where have you been??? Ford ranks barely a step above VW in quality...ie...the bottom of the barrel. I still love the Lightning, but overall quality of the brand, cmon now. Toyota is quality. Toyota - boring but good. Of course, you won't see me driving one...but you gotta respect their overall quality (save for a lil engine gelling issue
). It looks like Ford is starting to get their act together finally...quality is starting to go up...so that is a good sign.
Bottom of the barrel???? I am not saying ford is perfect but you may want to check the other manufacturers records first(ie DODGE CHEVY).
Then you go on to use toyota as an example of quality??? Sure they do run a long time but so has my lawnmower that has about the same horsepower. Fords attempt at a toyota like car was the escort and I know of many with several hundred thousand miles on them.
Loyalty to the brand.... some people are loyal to the brand for many reasons , like grey said family or maybe just the fact that the old blue oval has treated them well over the years.

Ah...you'll have to forgive me. I'm from NY, so I havn't spent too much time on a farm. I'm not familiar with farm terms. I still can't say I know exactly what a hay rack is, but if it feels like the interior of a toyota, I will assume that it is well built with good craftsmanship and high quality soft to the touch materials and minute gaps.
MAC[H]Z - Chrysler used to be one of the worst, but Ford surpassed them this year. Check the statistics. And GM, they are far far ahead of Ford in quality, they are starting to approach the japanese. If they stay on track, they should be close to honda in a couple years. I'm not sure what you would consider a "Toyota like car" to be? Does your lawnmower have as much power as a supra turbo? He he..like I said, I'm not a fan of their cars...but they are known for quality, unlike ford. You don't like toyota, fine, there is honda. Not quite as good as toyota, but they are right up there.
I have 2 fords and no cars by other brands, so this is not brand predjudice or brand loyalty. My lightning has treated me well without any major problems. I have no grudge, these are just the stats. Trust me, I would love for Ford to improve. It would have a nice affect on my portfolio.

JD Power is a good primary source. They are onsite at the OEM's. Other than that, I read tons of articles everyday about the industry. Technical magazines, WSJ, CR, newspapers around the country and the world etc...etc...Call it a little "hobby" of mine.
Hmmm?
I went to JD Power and compared a Ford F150, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord Sedan and Volkswagon Jetta for the year 2001 (I figured this would be a good year because they are still fairly new, but lots of data should be available).
Mechanical Quality:
F150 4/5; Toyota 3/5; Honda 3/5; VW 3/5
Feature & Accessory Quality:
F150 3/5; Toyota 2/5; Honda 2/5; VW 3/5
Body & Interior Quality:
F150 2/5; Toyota 4/5; Honda 4/5; VW 5/5
Total Points:
F150 9/15; Toyota 9/15; Honda 9/15; VW 11/15
It looks like Ford wins out on the mechanical side (this seems to be where they get the most criticism)
Ford and VW are ahead on the features and accessories
VW has the best body and Interior quality with Toyota and Honda close behind.
From this data 95 Saleen, I don't see how you have come to your opinion. Volkswagon seems to be the clearcut winner, with Ford neck and neck with the other two, but Ford is definitely stronger on the mechanical and features side, which, in my opinion, would be more important than body and interior.

Navi man...you have to compare quality of the entire car line, not one particular model. That is where your data was flawed. It is not my Opinion that they were rated inferior, it is a fact. Ask anyone in the industry who is familiar with the rankings.
Just FYI...I was told by a very wise source that if you are a non-Nascar fan, and have daughters...just start sleeping with them...all of a sudden, unexplainably you will understand and begin enjoying Nascar. Heard it may work with cousins also.
J/K by the way....last time I made a joke on this board, half the users sucked their panties about four inches up their azzzes..

Seeing as how this is a F150 forum, I figured it was more important to take a look at the vehicle family we all drive. I chose the most popular vehicle in each of the manufacturers that you mentioned in one of your posts. I realize that there are some flaws in this, but statistics can be used to lead or mislead most anybody.
I'll give you an interesting story I experienced a few years back. A Toyota service manager confided that Toyota asked their dealers not to report certain warranty issues, but to repair them at no cost to the consumer and they would be reimbursed. By not reporting these issues as a warranty problem, Toyota was able to keep a higher rating. Makes you really wonder what goes on behind closed doors.
Any way, I don't mean to pick on you, but I just wanted to give you a different viewpoint. All car manufacturers have their plus' and their minus'. We all make our own personal choices for various reasons.

I cant speak for anyone else but my blood runs True Blue. I have never liked chevy's designs much (especially their interiors) and my mothers side of the family drives only chevys at that. I even have an uncle on my moms side who restores classic chevys. As for dodge, I think their trucks are ugly, the new ones arent bad looking actually but I still think my truck is more fun. Then theirs the fact Ol' Henry INVENTED the auto...makes sense our are the best. Except for the 93 taures (or whatever) we had..it sucked..sucked bad
All the manufacturers do that Naviman, not just Toyota. Mitsubishi just got busted for doing it BIG time. I've spoken with a service manager at a Ford/Toyota dealer who confided in me that the Toyota side never has any serious problems to fix, but they are always fixing blown engines and trannies on the Fords.
But that is all one man's experience. I prefer to go by the statistics. It is really surprising me that people are still in denial about Toyota quality Vs Ford quality.
Did you read that little story about how Ford cooks a potato vs how toyota cooks a potato...it's scary how true it is.
Thas enuf for tonight...I can try to post quality reports tomarrow if I get a chance to dig em up at work...if anyone is interested they can shoot me an email.
It's been fun. Night all!
