sorry to get off topic a little but i read somewhere that the e-fan and water pump and the throttle body only added up to 7hp at the wheels???

am i missing something here? thought with that combo you'd pick up around 15 hp or so...

Something to consider when thinking about this mod...
The "velocity" through the TB is pretty much irrelevant, except as it affects cylinder pressure on the intake stroke...... get TB velocity too high, and you get more pressure loss in the TB = lower cylinder pressure = reduced VE. Get velocity low and you reduce pressure loss in the TB = more cylinder pressure = improved VE.

The plenum and blower effectively isolates the TB from the individual runners, causing the air flow through the TB to be relatively steady state. There is nothing to be gained by increasing velocity, to increase inertia in steady state flow. It just dumps into a big open plenum. Any "inertia" is lost. This is of course different than the individual intake runners, where high velocity/inertia can be important, but that is because of the "pulse" flow that occurs in the intake runners.

Just a few things to think about when spending $450.00

You can bolt on just about anything, except for a large pulley w/o adding a chip. For instance, the new Cobra's can add up 4lb's of extra boost w/ no chip. I wouldn't run any more than 2 additional lbs of boost w/o a chip in a Lightning. However, the chip is the best bang for the buck.

An easy way to put it is, you must find the most restrictive flowing part of the whole system, from air filter to exhaust tip. You must take care of the most restrictve part first to see any gains in HP,and then from there, its the same thing. There will be something else that is the new restrictor through the motor, and i don't beleive the most restrictive part of a L would be a 90mm TB. TT Buick GN's run in the7's with a 90mm TB. My buddy is high 8's on a 70mm. I wouldsay the stockTB is good to the 6's and at any time would be a waste to install.

Why not do the chip first? It has, by far ,a better bang for buck factor.

Best performance mods STILL remain Air Filter, Chip, and Pulley.

thanks for all the help!!!! but i all ready ordered the tb and ram air kit before returning online. these will me my first mods on a stock lightning. then i'm going with the bassani exhaust. then when i order a chip, i'll get the pulley and new plugs. i did not know what to buy first, so i thought to buy it in this order, so i can have the chip programmed once. when buying the pulley what do you guys recommend. upper or lower pulley? what lbs?

LOWER pulley--I chose to stop(for now, anyway?) at 5 lbs extra. I don't like a reduced diameter upper pulley..........

As well as the previous technical posts regarding the T.B.'s were, I have to dissagree on a few points. On the velocity issue I do agree that too little will improve overall VE. With this said we have to realize that with the stock boost and A/F ratios, the factory T.B is very efficient. Even with lets say a 2 or 3 lb pulley, the added volume(key word) being drawn through, the t.b handles it quite well. But going upwards with higher boost levels, the stock T.B's divider becomes more critical in terms of obstruction as well as slight turbulence. ( Why do the quickest lightnings around use the single blade T.B's?) high boost levels in addition to improved aftermarket exhaust evacuation rates predicate more volume(cfms) which the twin port factory T.B's do not adequetly provide. That is not to say that bigger is better.Staying within the factory opening (within a few MM's) with the seperator removed will provide the needed air volume BUT this must include higher boost(4,6, 8) pulleys as well as the correct fuel and timing tuning, of coarse. The added boost levels will compensate for the lost velocity that the single blade intoduces to the engine management. This is why an Accufab or any other S.B. will add hardly anything to a stock pullied supercharged motor... even if you have the best chip and filter available. The higher the boost the more the benefit. This is how the manufacturers can make their 7-8 h.p. claims. Its always on a "stoutly" modified engine. Would I add one as one of my first mods? Definetley not! Add one to a modified L with a 4-8 lber...Absolutely! Just my 20 cents!

BTW, A Ford Racing single blade will do the job just as well....and is around $300 (or less) Just missing the "eye candy" of the higher priced ones.
