My reasoning exactly! I considered the M3, Boxter, S2000, I chose the Z, not because it was American but because it does the job better.
I think the GT is awesome, I can't wait to see one. I agree that you won't see many driving around. They will be like Vipers, spending their lives being hauled around in trailers . I'd like to see what the numbers are with a chip'n filter, +pully

Several auto makers are coming out with Luxury cars with HP ratings approaching or surpassing the GT"s claimed 500/500 (I think these #"s are correct). How embarrasing would it be to get your doors sucked off of your rough idling, rough driving, hard to see out of, Hey everyone look at me i'm driving the new Ford GT by a six passenger Mercedes with 12 disc premium sond, front and side airbags,4 climate zones, cruise control, slapstick auto, lighted vanity mirrors for front and rear passenger,ABS brakes, traction control, and customer serv. that will serve you wine and beer when you have to wait for an oil change. Now thats a car worth 6 figures. The logical price for a new GT should be about the same as a new Viper. Kind of reminds me of my grandma, my parents had a very nice lake house on PK, but could only get her to come and visit only a few times in 25 years. Dad said if we would put up an outhouse in back she would have been there every weekend.
Very entertaining... Du' mas.

I'll have to bring this thread back out when the GTs actually start to be tested by the public. I believe the results will L-iminate any confusion between them and any 6 passenger (or other luxury) vehicles...

Public

I doubt the public will get to test them. I'm not bashing the car, I'm sure it will be awesome. I'm only venting because of the price. If only Ford would not tie it in with the popular GT40 of the 60's they could build 10,000 a year, call it a NT40 or ZT40 or even a LT40 and then charge 60 or 70,000 and still make a descent profit.

Building 10K GTs a year would require an entire assembly plant... or... modifying an existing plant to build them along side something else. Any idea how much capital investment would be required?

Vipers are now $80K and won't have the performance of the GT.

The cheapest Ferrari is what? 180K? (I don't really know). The Ferrari 360 doesn't have room for six or 4 zone climate control. You really think the owners feel bad when that MB pulls up next to them?

You don't think the public will drive them? Who's going to buy them all? Ford execs? other car companies???

I think it is great that Ford is building the GT 40. It is my understanding that they will be using a 5.4l supercharged motor. Sounds like a great motor to put into the L. I bet Ford has already figured this out as well. This 500 hp/ 500 ft lb engine may make the new L even faster than the proposed Dodge v-10 truck. I sure hope this happens!!!!!!

This will be an awsome car and the price will not hold it back. The Enzo Ferrari, 660HP & 440 Tq, has been slated to build noly 349 of these cars at $652,000 each. Only 70 are to be shipped to the US, but there are already over 200 orders from the US. To keep scalping down Ferrari will build a car for every customer order.
If this is a great performance car, a $100,000 price tag will not keep the car from saleing, there are thousands of millionaires just waiting for the next best thing. Performance sells, no matter what the name plate.
