Gt40
I have to agree, this vehicle will not appeal to the folks that can afford it (after dealer markup). The Corvette/Z06 is available in 3 flavours, broadening it's marketability.
None of the dealers in my vicinity should get one, their customer service all stink!

I'll take it.
I will buy one the moment I can get it for sticker. I will then proceed to beat the crap out of it at the track and hump its tailpipes on the weekend.
The GT40 is my dream car and I will have it.
Whoa... that just kinda came out.

The potential for this car is awesome. I know the original goal was 500/500 and 2500lbs. If Ford can meet those number the performance will be incredible. I have always loved to original GT and dreamed of owning one. The was my hope to fulfill that dream. $100k-$150k will keep it a dream awhile longer. Ford has done some amazing things to take this from proto-type to production in a short time. Sounds a lot like Chrysler has done with the Viper, Prowler, PT Cruiser, etc. Time will tell the true story.

Y'all are too funny. I'm with Coldie except for the tailpipe thing, too kinky for me.
Ford means to "celebrate and commemorate" with the introduction of the Ford GT. I don't think Ford is introducing the car to compete in some market niche, surely not the one inhabited by Viper and Corvette. Ford understands that the history of the car is what is attractive to potential buyers, especially those of us who were glued to Wide World of Sports, watching Ford tearing the european manufacturers a new one. The decision to make the car was also very smart from a public relations standpoint. Sure made the automotive press forget about Jack Nasser, rolling Explorers and Firestone tires.

heh...
Silver-Bolt: I have a reply, but this is a PG-13 board, so I'll let it slide
Seriously though. Before Ford showed the new GT40, I was seriously considering a "new" GT40 (same comapny, same molds etc....

I cant believe anyone is trashing this thing. I've been waiting years for Ford to get some ***** and make a car that will blow away anything on the street. I will probably never be able to afford it either, but then again this car isn't being built for me. To the comment about a Mercedes blowing the doors off of it. There is no car that has ever came out of Germany (including the 911 turbo and 959) that will be able to hang with this, especially for less than $200k. Top of the line Ferraris or Lambos but they are $250k+.

AMG MB
The AMG SL55 most likely will be able to hang with the GT40.
I don't know how much you know about it, but how does 500hp out of a Supercharged 5.4L V8 sound (honest stats). Sounds pretty familiar doesn't it?
BUT! The MB is a convertable with no option for a stick shift. It's a bit different than the GT.

WOW....
I guess the Lightning boards will sure tell them what to do with that GT-40 car.
Come on y'all... we should be applouding Ford for the effort and for the gutts to build the thing... It's marketing and that is really it... it worked for Dodge and it'll work for Ford... this thread is proof of that.
I for one, like it better than the Viper GTS because of ingress and egress... ever get into a Vett??? and then a Viper??? I don't think many of us have done that in a GT-40 either but the doors look like they will be accommodating to us old farts that can't handle the Viper and like the Vett.
As for the horsepower question... can anyone say S7??? Nuff said... it will scoot.
My deal is will I have enough money by 2004 to do anything about it!!!
Anyone wanna buy some insurance, manufacturing software or an electronic filing system (
)?
I am looking forward to it... if Ford screws it up... they will have too much exposure to even think they could get by on ignoring it...

No slams from me. I love the, want the car. The only thing that scares me is Saleen is the designated chassis assembler. Hmmm how many S7's have actually made it to the street????

and this is a "concept" too that is supposed to be built.
The six-liter V10 engine is estimated to produce 558 horsepower (DIN) and 330 lbs./ft. of torque. Combined with a six-speed manual transmission, the Carrera GT will have an estimated top speed over 205 mph (330 km/h).
