Tim, sounds to me like one of three things, that I've seen from experiance with the same problem...

1- Bad 2nd gear shift solenoid

2- Bad valve body (acutally if if were the VB, it would still shift, just not have the proper firmness)

3- Bad mechanical diode

When my 01 was a week old I was racing a Viper and the trans hit 2nd really hard then it would just freewheel unless I let off the gas after that. The dealer replaced the trans, and when the old unit got back to the plant Gregg said my diode was misbuilt and missing a few one way rollers.

I was hoping it was an easy solution. Can I cry agian about pulling that tranny? I put it in there by myself it was a monster feat! My truck is telling me that it does not want to leave Texas, I was planning on leaving for Virginia and I have had 2 problems in one week! I guess Mr. Gregg Evans will give me my solution about 2am. I will let yall know.

Well, I'm stumped. Is it shifting into second with manual? It doesn't have a mechanical diode, it's got one of the 45 element sprags, so I really doubt that's your problem. Did you try the TPS thing?

If you eleminate all the other possiblilities, I will of course rebuild it, but I hate to have you take it out again etc... let me look at what could have gone wrong...and keep trying the other things. Have your dealer give you a code on what caused the OD light to flash, that will help me a lot.

I am going to check the TPS volts tommorrow. I have not taken it to a dealer. I have a freind with a code analizer or whatever you call it, its the same as thay use. And no codes showed up just one and that was my boost dump. Since I killed the truck the light quit flashing. I read on a search about a flight recorder , have no idea. I asked if we could drive it while it was connected would any codes show up that would not show up with it parked. I will check it out and see. I will run every test we can before I pull that tranny agian. Its hard me to belive its inside, yours is the best in the buisness! Thanks Gregg will let ya know.

Tim,
No codes were shown when my friends TPS failed. I thought my volt meter was bad since it was reading 0.0. Swaped the throttle body and re-checked. It then showd .97 and has been running and shifting great since.

Pull the pan. remove the 1 to 2 upshift plunger, polish it, reinstall it and see what happens.
