Has anyone installed a rear view auto dimming mirror in their 2001 Lightning? Looking for options.

Yep!! Did it first month ( June 99 ) after I got her. Then week
later changed rear slider out to for solid glass (smoked) . It's
also got the compass and lights on bottom of mirror !

 

I put a electrocromic mirror in my 01 s/c lariat, 02crew cab s/d and my Lightning those mirrors are the best invention there ever was. My 2 Supercrew King Ranches came standard with them.

 

Can you post some pics and where did you get the parts?

Go to your dealer and ask for the same Electrocromic mirror that is in the Lariats and King ranches

Thanks for the part #'s. Will this wire assy hook up to stock wiring? Or do I have to make some connections?

 

In my Lariat there was a iss ue with the vanity lights in the mirrors. However, in the Lightning everything was click click on the connectors. No soldering spliceing, Etc.

 

I am thinking about getting either a factory overhead console or the comp/temp/dimming mirror. Is the total price around $175 ?? What is the $130 part for?? Sorry if I missed the obvious.

Beside the compass, does it have anything else? like Temp and other things?

 

All I need is the auto dimming mirror w/o the other bells and whistles, since the 01 comes w/a compass/temp gauge in the overhead. Dr D info'd me on a mirror from Mitocorp for $99 that is the base model which is what I want. Does Ford affer a base model? It would be a waste for me to pay the xtra for temp/compass, etc. since I already have. Besides I live on Oahu and if I need a compass/temp readout here, I'm in deep kimchee.
I'm hoping I can connect right into the overhead console where the power goes to the elec. compass and temp gauge. Not real sure but I'll give it a try.

 

I was aksing about all that cause the 99's didn't come with all that stuff. I would like to have if it's available but if not, oh well.

Go to the website Dr D provided. They have a ton of different mirrors w/every elec. gizmo you could want as well as the instructions yu can review so yu can see if yu want to deal w/the headache of doing the wiring.

 

The seat belt part # is for a complete harness with the wiring in it for the Electrocromic Mirror. Both the mirrors Ford put in for me were the base model mirrors (w/o temp & compass) if you have any further call 1-800-463-3612 Freedom ford in Edmonton, Alberta Canada ask for Chris in parts and tell him you want the same Electrocromic mirror as Pat Sawyer got in his truck.
