Strangest 60 minutes ever (no, not the tv show)(long)
I work 50 hours a week and bartend 4 nights on top of that. Last night I was on my way home from a not so nice side of town and I was coming off of the I10 interchange onto I17 to get home and this moron in a Neon came flying up behind me. Usually I am a lot more confrontational than I happened to be last night, but I was so tired, so I gave him a little brake check to get him to back off. That did no good. He got even closer. One thing I have learned in Arizona, most of the drivers have a philosophy...if it isn't in front of your vehicle, it doesn't exist, therefore, 120 in this situation would have flat out been stupid. But I did speed up. I changed lanes twice and both times this jackass followed me flashing his brights. About 2 minutes later at about 85MPH I realize that there is a car to our right matching speed with us. The Neon backs WAY off. This car moves in behind me just as close as the Neon was. For about 2 miles he follows me and I am wondering what the hell is going on. Then I catch the reflection. It's a cop. This guy was tailgating me, giving me chase and the cop pulls in behind me. Makes PERFECT sense. So I wait, knowing it's coming. Sure enough I look back, see the Neon cut across 4 lanes and exit and on come the lights. Pull off the highway. Out of state expired tags (which I am working the second job to update) obviously paced at at least 85MPH in a 55. I'm screwed. Up walks the officer. Big smile. I'm thinking great, not only is he going to jack me, but he is going to love every second of it. He asks how I like the state, where I live, where I am coming from. Takes my license and my insurance, but not my registration. 2 minutes later he comes back. The standard question, "Christy, do you know why I pulled you over?" How do you answer that when you KNOW you are busted? I didn't have to. He answered for me. He told me he saw everything. He saw the Neon, he saw the brake check, he saw the chase, but what he saw that I didn't, he saw the guy grab his cell phone and make a call, he saw another car get on the highway and the two cars giving eachother hand gestures while the driver of the Neon was looking for something under his seat. So he did the only thing he could to make sure I was ok. He pulled me over. He told me outright, "Christy, I realize Denver can be rough, but in the area you just came from, with a truck like this, a girl, alone late at night, they will shoot you and kill you for your truck, because it's nice, because it projects the fact that you may have money, because you didn't really back down. You need to be careful." Now in the 10 years that I have been driving I have NEVER had a dealing with the police like this. I have been stopped, and detained while they climb around under my truck looking for tickets. I have been hollered at. I have made quite a few enemies on the traffic team back home. I don't deny responsibility for a lot of it. But I have never had an officer tell me that he had my safety in mind like that. Maybe I am hard headed but I was a lot more moved by his reasoning and gesture than I was scared by his revealing what was going on that I couldn't see behind me. But he let me go. He told me it would be a good idea to take a different route home and asked me to please be careful. I'm still in awe of his actions. I found myself doing the speed limit today though without any conscious effort. Not a norm for me. I wish there was some way I could tell him how much I appreciate what he did. I got home 30 minutes later and found a Fedex box on my doorstep from driveonline.com and I won a grand prize drawing. That thing was full of all kinds of toys. 1:24 scale die cast cars, Johnny Lightning cars, a huge box of Corvette cookies hehe, a bunch of cleaning products, a couple of Ford books about classic cars and a bunch of parts magazines. That was pretty neat. It was a strange end to an otherwise uneventful day/night.

Wow, glad you got out of that deal (the attempted car jackings probably) fine.. I have had my fair share of run-ins with the cops, but i never get mad because i know they will be there for me when i need it. Please find a different route home! Stay safe out there..

Wo, that was something else. I think you should marry the guy! Man im still thinking how incredible that was. I hope there are more cops like him. I will never forget that story, very educational too.
Glad to hear a good-cop story. Also glad he was there when you needed him.
Next question... what is the concealed carry law in your state? Hate to be paranoid, but its safer to be paranoid and armed.
Main reason I spend a lot of time teaching my wife to use the guns in the house. She had someone following her a few days back, and they only backed off when she went into a busy store parking lot. Had she not been aware of the situation, she could of led them home and had to face them alone. At least she would of had a chance with a nice Kimber .45 loaded and in reach inside the house.

Glad every thing turned out good, and no harm was done. That does go to show that good people are out and about in this world.
We have had this happen with our job on many occurnces. You will see 3 guys come in the store, all split and keep an eye on you, its a strange feeling. Normally we have at least 2 armed people working at all times. We have also been fueling up the big rig and have a car load of kids stare at us and talk between them, thats when you happen to drop your gloves, bend down to pick them up, and the gun happens to be shown inside your back pocket.

I wasn't planning on telling my parents about it. My Dad in particular isn't too thrilled with me bartending but he likes the fact that he isn't having to pay my bills. But we don't keep secrets so I told them. My Dad was visibly shaken by it and my Mom was kinda mad at me for not being more upset about the possibilities. This is the way I look at it. If God wants me he will take me, the vehicle through which he does it is not relevant. To me, proof of that is the intervention last night. That officer could have been a million other places, to me, the fact that he was there reconfirms for me that somebody is watching and it just wasn't that time. May sound kinda hokey, but that's what I believe. So I am not afraid. Common sense, however, tells me that I do have to be much more guarded than I have been before now. Point taken. Rob, that is a good idea. I think that I will drop those cookies off for him. Thanks

Its like in Signs, when Mel says there are two people; the ones who beleieve in coincidences and the ones who dont. Sometimes you just gotta ask yourself, was it a coincidence that the cop saw the whole thing and maybe saved your life OR could it have been an elaborate setup to get the cop in good standing with a pretty lady driving a Lightning. Are there other victims? Who were they?
Theres only one way to find out.
The real question is, where's your faith?
Glad it all turned out OK. Its a good idea to always be aware of everything and expect the unexpected. Easier said than done I know, but w/ training it comes second-nature.
Be careful and stay forever vigilante.
Nice story by the way.

I'm glad to hear everything turned out okay. The general public seems to have a negative perception of law enforcement, but in reality, they are out there to maintain the peace and protect us from 'bad guys', and I'm glad they're out there. Sure, when we're doing 'spirited' driving, we'd rather not have cops around, but when you and your family are sleeping at night, isn't nice to know there are peace officers patrolling, watching out for us? If you've ever been stuck in the middle of nowhere at night, with a broken car, the first thing you'll be wishing to see is a state trooper to help out. They're not perfect, but they always respond in an emergency. They have a dangerous job, and I appreciate what they do. Thank goodness he was there at the right time...
If only they wouldn't get so upset over a little 'spirited' driving
Oh ya, can you share those Corvette cookies with us? We like to 'eat' Corvettes, if ya know what I mean

2,
Once things slow down at work there are three of us here who are going for our CWL. I have a 5 shot Taurus revolver and had a CWL in Boulder county back home. But it was only good in Boulder county. Here you can have a statewide issued license with the proper training. God be with me if I ever have to use it.
It's amazing how a total stranger can turn feelings that have culminated over years in a complete 180 in a matter of seconds...
ZX,
I'll email you some hehe There are 12 different kinds. I have had the smaller box of Mustang cookies. They are pretty good

I havent ever judged anyone before meeting them and likewise I will never underestimate anyone whether I meet them or not. I think its better to keep an open mind and not be oblivious to what you cant see. Food for thought.
glad you are ok. you can buy the necessary pump/reservoir tank for add-on windshield washer squirters from JC Whitney or Pep Boys and run some clear tubing to the rear bumper of the truck. fill it with some motor oil and with the flip of a switch,,, start "leaking" motor oil all over the windshield of the person, following you too close or harrassing/threatening you. they will fall back quickly, or have to pull over, and if it turns out to be a "friendly",,, "then i guess your truck has an oil leak" or something
