Strangest 60 minutes ever (no, not the tv show)(long)
im not sure how much of a "gator" you need for a nice set of boots, but i think after last weekend you could find plenty of dead "gators" up at the univeristy of florida after a miami hurricane came through and destroyed the place

No offense, but if you shoot, kill them, even if it means pausing to reload. Easier to sort it out with their next of kin than to face an asinine lawsuit.
Rather that than... "But your honor, I was just earning a living jacking cars, and now I am handicapped by the heartless gunfire of the defendant. I feel that 2.5 gazillion dollars will be adequate recompense for mental anguish".

I've been putting off getting a concealed carry permit, but I think I'll be taking advantage of that law sooner rather than later. Everytime I hear about carjackings and other crimes, I always think about what I would do in that situation. Having a weapon gives us somewhat of a fighting chance, if 'negotiations' don't work. We work hard for what we have, and I'll be damned to give it up to some thug. I'm a law abiding citizen, and if a gun has to be drawn, it will only be done so in the most extreme of circumstances. And I wouldn't hesitate discharging it if my life (or someone else's life) was in danger...
In our age of 'touchy-feely, everyone has rights' mentality, it's a shame that the legal system seems to protect criminals

Glad I could still be around to tell you guys.
I'll remember that Dan.
Speedy I live in AZ...they don't know what "lawns" are here.
Sorry, Gatey. Had to say it
I was especially careful on my way home tonight. Took the long way around. This job is only for another week. Then I can stick back on my side of town and not tempt fate.

Glad to hear that you are ok, but I'm a little confused--not that hard to do. When you were telling the story, you said the cop said "Denver is a dangerous place, etc"? This sounded like a recent incident and you live in AZ right? I thought Colo legislature recently narrowly defeated CCW law? Boulder county had CCW when prohibited by state? Be glad you live in AZ, they have some of most "liberal" of firearms laws even open carry without permit---In spite of efforts of formerly great John McCain to weaken our firearms rights. He's become mouthpiece for owner of Monster. com's organization to restrict firearms laws. Get the firearms training and I hope it includes all legal aspects & potential consequences of using a firearm. Most states prohibit carrying firearm in any establishment that sells alchohol, but would be irrelevant since you are soon quitting that job. A good firearm should be a lifetime purchase, so don't skimp. Recommend trading that Taurus (improving quality, but not "bet your life" quality) for a Sig P228 or a Glock 19 in 9mm. Bite the bullet for at least 2 hicap magazines. An auto is easier to shoot than a revolver, plus triple the round count. Not to sound sexist, but assume since you have a L that learning a few "mechanical" skills wouldn't intimidate you, plus adequate arm strength in EITHER arm to rack the slide? With good ammo 9mm is potent enough and easy for you to learn to shoot well. If you had 2-3 cars after you with several guys,WOULD THAT 5 SHOT TAURUS, EVEN IF YOU HAD A COUPLE SPEEDLOADERS HANDLE THAT SITUATION? Never admit you shot to kill, but "shot to stop" which means center of mass in chest. Cops can tell bullet trajectory if you purposely shot after perp was clearly going down, or worse when he is on ground! Don't do it! This is advice of fromer military & civilian cop. Sorry for long post, but want to see you safe!
... so if you are going to 'stop' the perp, be sure to click off 2+ rounds in rapid succession, or go for a higher caliber or a more lethal bullet (talons).
I really think our prisions should adopt a FIFO policy, with "out" meaning death row. Every new prisoner means one is executed. It would solve the overcrowding problem and might be a more effective deterrant.
... that, or bring back brutal chain gangs. Make the SOBs work for the $55K/yr it costs to house them.

Hey Jake,
I moved to AZ in June. I lived in Denver previous to that. Prior to the vote in CO to prohibit CCW in order to carry a concealed weapon you needed to have each county you carry in approve your license. The only county who actively issued approval was Boulder even prior to the vote, meaning that if I had my weapon on me in Boulder I was fine, the second I crossed county lines it was no longer legal. In AZ the license is a state wide issued license. In the small talk between the officer and I we talked about where I had moved from in CO (I still had my CO tags). His reference was to Denver and making a point that things are different here in Phoenix. Car jackings occur more often here. I'm not quitting my bar tending job, this particular "job" is finished. Let's be honest, the money is too good. But the laws are very cut and dry here regarding carrying firearms in establishments that serve alcohol. The owner can carry citing his right to protect his property, obviously, peace officers can carry, this, as crazy as it sounds, includes any dog catcher or park ranger that has a service side arm, any employee authorized by the owner can carry but has to have it openly displayed. Hell, they are strict regarding DRINKING in an establishment that serves alcohol. For instance. You are NOT allowed to get drunk in a bar. As the bartender I cannot serve alcohol to someone if I believe that the next drink I serve them will put them over the legal limit to operate a vehicle. If you are drunk, you can't even ENTER a bar. If you do happen to get drunk it is then my responsibility to allow you 30 minutes to find a ride home. Here's where it gets weird. I have to do everything in my power to get you a ride, call your friends, family, wife, whatever. If that doesn't work, I call a cab. I can't pay for the cab. If I do, you are my responsibility until you get out of the cab at point B. If the driver wrecks and you are paralyzed you can sue me. BUT...in that 30 minutes if I cannot find you a ride, you refuse to pay for a cab and want to drive, I can't take your keys, that is kidnapping. You can sue me for that. Also, if you get in your car, crash into a family of 4, kill 3 of them, they survivor or survivors of the deceased can sue me for letting you go. These are just variations of laws in every state. For the most part they are the same just about everywhere. So....the next time you are in a bar full of people and the bartender is working the bar alone without anyone else, remember, they are not just a bartender, they are the designated babysitter...so, do us a favor tip well and take a DD. hehe
Ok that rant was totally off topic. Anyway, hope that answers what you were asking me
Now I know the question is going to come...I do it because I enjoy it. It's a good way to meet people, it's kick *** money and I multitask like no other. It's not just flipping bottles around and setting ***** on fire for effect, although that is one of the cooler aspects. We have a responsibility, I personally take it seriously, I also have no problem with confronting people if it comes down to that, and it doesn't usually. But if I have to cut somebody off they aren't happy about it usually. It's also a little bit of a power trip...I have complete control. If I don't like you there are a thousand ways I can get around having to deal with you...all of which will have the same end result. You on the other side of the front door.

A gun isn't a bad idea; but, if you are doing this sort of work, car-jacking is the least common after work problem you are going to have. Learning where "all" the police stations or high police traffic areas are on you travel route is the number one safety precaution you should take. When being followed, pull into the parking lot of one, or better yet, up to the front door if you can. This is the technique all the women at the few bars and stripclubs I have bounced in are taught. It works. I know many women who have saved themselves this way; and, they always pass the idea on to any new girls that are hired. I hope this helps. I'm also glad everything worked out for you this time.
