Am I getting screwed with A-plan?

I have been trying to find the right truck for a few weeks no, but have had a hard time finding a True Blue L. I found one in Northern VA, but it had 585 miles on it NEW!!! They said it was loaned to the dealers son for a few weeks. I thought they couldn't do that. Anyway, I went to a different local dealer who has a silver one left.

I have an A-plan pin number, so I can get the truck for a good deal. Last year, a dealer told me it would be $28,400 out the door with taxes and everything, and it was only about $27,700 for actual cost. The dealer I went to today, wants $28,200 for cost, and $29,150 out the door.

I didn't think these trucks went up that much in price in one year. That is a $500 difference. They also refused to show me the invoice for the truck, and claimed it took 45 minutes to figure out the price. I think that I am getting the run around cause they want some extra cash.

What did everyone else pay for their vehicle cost (before tax) on their 2002's?

Thats a great price out the Door. Here in NY they will add to the Sticker and don't want to hear nothing about special Deals. Although a selected few have found them (NOT ME)

They also had a Sonic Blue 03 Cobra out front that someone decided to backout on after ordering it. They told me I could get it for $32,000 out the door with tax and all.

I love the Lightning, but that Cobra sure was nice. I can't justify the $3000 difference plus higher insurance. Even though this may be the only year of that supercharged Cobra, and that would bump it's value way up.

Around here, I shouldn't have a problem with dicount pricing, and I sure as heck shouldn't have to on a truck that has been there half a year.

Um, are you a ford employee? If you are, you should know how the a-plan system works. If you think you are getting ripped off, take a copy of the invoice back to your a-plan admin and she/he will tell you how much the truck should cost. Weather or not the dealer sells it to for that price is another thing.

My brother is a Ford employee, discount is the same though. I just wonder what others paid by comparison, when two dealers 10 miles apart have 2 different "dealer" prices. They are both Blue Oval Certified, so I thought they all have the same dealer cost.

On top of that, I wondered why they refused to show me the invoice.

Make them show you the invoice...don't put up with their BS. It sounds a little high. Mine was just $26,000 2 years ago.

The Aplan price is right on the invoice.

Aplan on the car is the same price no matter where you get it. Don't let them f u over...they definitely will try.

Dealers can basically do what they want. They do not have to honour the a-plan price. If they don't, move on to another dealer who will (usually when times are slow for the dealers or close to new model releases they have no trouble honouring the a-plan price). I would still have your brother get the correct price for you so you at least know where to start from.

My X plan price in May was $29,403 - before taxes, tag, etc. so 28,200 sounds about right. Ford has a website for looking up specific vehicles, by VIN, and it will tell you what the X-plan price is. I assume they have the same for A-plan pricing.

Also, Ford incorporates price increases throughout the year so the price for a 2002 in January is not necessarily the same as in September...

I bought my 2001 for $28,400 on the A-plan, I would ask to see the invoice. If they give you chit then take your business somewhere else.

There litterally dozens of dealers around, so I may just have to try another. It may only be a $750 difference, but that's a couple of performance parts I would rather have.

First dealer I went to took 5 minutes, but this dealer took a total of 1.5 hours just to tell me "their price".

Dealers are NOT allowed to charge more than aplan if they are in fact giving you the truck ON a-plan. They do not have to honour a-plan, but if they do...they cannot make you pay over what it says on the sticker.

That is a BIG no no..and ford would be very happy to hear about this.

The trucks did increase in price for 01/02 by almost a thousand dollars. I got my 01 on D plan, which is A plan for dealer employees who work for a Blue Oval/Lincoln Premier certified dealer. Dealer invoice on my 01 was just under 28k. The dealer I buy my Lightnings from sells them for 4k over sticker, non negotiable. And I had to work to get them to plan me, and I've bought 3 previous Lightnings from them.

The dealer does not have to agree to sell you a Lightning on plan. And most dealers don't do it, but it's not to be asses, it's for a reason. SVT dealers only get a certian amount of vehicles each year from Ford (the number varies based on location). It also costs SVT dealers $10k a year to be SVT. They rely on the sales of those SVT vehicles to help cover the cost of being able to sell them. Plus they also know since the vehicles are in demand, if you don't buy it because they won't plan you, someone else will.

Here in NY, SVT dealers only get 7 Lightnings a year. The only reason I got mine on plan, is because I have contacts at SVT and they agreed to give this dealer an extra Lightning to make up for mine. Some dealers in the southern US get as many as 20 Lightnings a year. Those are the dealers that have them sitting in rows on the lot . Those are usually the dealers that will plan you.

Just a little insight.

That is very good insight, thanks!!

I searched my area, and there actually aren't any more L's availible within 2 hours of here. I found a nice blue one, but it is 3.5 hours away. If it turns out to be cheaper, then I guess it is worth the ride. Otherwise, I will stick with the locals.

Every dealer asks if I want a 2003, but I don't feel like waiting 6 months for delivery. I want eat my cake now.

Dealer cost is the same, no matter where in the country they are located, and A-plan is indicated on every invoice, as is "D" plan, "X" plan and "Z" plan.........and a few others not worth mentioning.

They have to accept the A plan, no matter who they are and no matter what you want to buy. It is setup for employees and direct family of employees of Ford. The dealership gets reimbursed back up to sticker from Ford for the vehicle that you buy.

If you buy a Lightning for 27,900 under A plan, but the sticker is 32,500, the dealer still gets kicked back the other 4600 in one way or another.

They might be able to tell you that they dont accept this plan or that plan, but the fact is that they have to accept it.

If they are not a SVT dealer and you want a 03 Cobra, then they can, and will DX (dealer exchange) one for you from another dealer.

The A plan is setup for Ford employees and they take good care of you if you are, even down to getting you the absolute best APR on your loan.
