Yeah, my typo, I meant 170, 140 is a 2.3 4 banger. 64 1/2 and early 65s had the 170, and most 65s and up were 200s.

A GT40 crate motor with a t5 tranny would be sweet.

Thumbs up

RT,

Being the negative AZZ that I am.......here goes: I am a huge mustang fan. (Have a 65 GT vert myself) I have even grown to love the coupe, but the one thing I don't like on a mustang is the Shelby look on a coupe! EEEWWW! Love Shelbys though, hell I even wanted to do my vert up just like your bro's car. So I guess I have a double standard. So, in conclusion your idea sounds good, but I would go with all the heads a crap you sid, but throw some carbs on there....and get some radiator woek done. (Just had a custom made radiator put in mine. (Dad was pissed as a hell cuz it overheated during a 4th of July parade. He had a state senator with him :o ) Just something about an old car with the gas fumes and the rough idle and all the old schoolness about it...If you are gonna do it, do it reliable old school power-house style!!! There now that wasn't so bad now, was it?

So you think I can make that car reliable with the engine and tranny he got in it now huh? I know what you mean about the GT350 thing, but thats my brother and he's not much of a car nut like I am, he just like's to think he is. I wonder if I should get him a new better carb for that engine? He really doesn't care about the power as much as I do, he just wants it to be reliable and that for me is hard to do you know. I see an oppotunity to make a 500HP car here and I want to do it like that, but I got to tell myself to stop and do it the way he wants it.

is there anybody in chicago land area that can tune a carb good? thats to old school for me right now.

Drop a 351W stroked to a 377 with a Victor Jr intake, Twisted Wedge R heads, and a rumpity cam. The 377 stroker kits leave enough space above the rings for a significant power adder of your choice (I'm partial to supercharging ). Bolt a T56 or C6 tranny behind it, and a 9inch rear, and you can have a bulletproof 10 sec daily driver.

RT,

My car is pretty reliable. I go all over the place. 289, 600cfm holley 4bbl, msd ignition, msd coil, msd billet distributor, march pullies and HIPO exhaust manifolds to 2 1/4 dual exhaust H-pipe and glass packs. Oh, and a 9 inch with a 1:3.50 detroit locker. Tranny is a c-4. It will cherp on the 1-2 shift. Like I said reliable. It is a fun car to drive, more of a cruiser than a muscle car, but fun none the less. If your bro isn't into the muscle car thing....well then I don't know what to say.... Get one of those big giant foam hands and smack him on dee back o dee het! Good luck with what ever you end up doing. There is always a 2bbl for better gas mileage....

RTKILLA: Is he paying for all this? I wouldnt want to foot the bill for someone elses car. If he wants to pay for it all I say do it up, otherwise he may not have 9 k in mind for it.

Geez, hey you need a another brother? I dont have any so you guys could like adopt me? I wish just 1 person in my family gave a rats azz about cars/trucks. That stang is going to be one fine machine Im sure. I have always wanted one of those '69 mach 1 s. I saw a bad *** acopulco blue one that was the R code version. Nice black leather inside and had a built engine which looked meaner than schit. one day....one day....

LOCOSVT hit the nail on the head although I wouldn't suggest using the R heads. IMO, If you are looking for low cost power, a 351W, stroked or not, is the better choice over a stroked 302. And there are lots of good deals on the internet for well built (and raced) 351W with low hours, which is how I got mine. To give you an idea, mine cost less than a Ford crate motor, has more power and I'll be able to spin it to 7000 without worries.
