Wear mark on driver's seat

I remember reading about "black wear marks" on the driver's seat of L's. It is caused by getting in and out of the truck. It is a mark that is about an inch wide and 6 inches long. Mine has this now and I'm wondering what I should do about it. The truck is still under warranty but will Ford replace the seat? Let me know if you have any info or have run into this problem. Thanks in advance.

I haven't run accross it, but I really don't see why they'd replace that under waranty... It's what happens when something rubs against fabric.
I don't know, though

Thumbs down Black mark

I have it on my drivers seat also. I've read that Ford will fix this under warranty. I hate leaving my "L" at the dealership though. Wet Okleys are in my future.

seat problems

lightng, I had a problem with the drivers seat on the left side, It always felt like I was sitting on the seat frame, I know I'm not the only one either. The black mark is most likely caused by the seat frame rubbing on the cover as you get in and out. My seat was repaired and the cover was changed under warranty. Good luck, Todd

Yes, many have had this problem, including myself on my 02 L. If you do a search you will find threads where some have found a way to prevent it from comming back after it is fixed. It is caused by the metal frame cutting through the pading and then wearing the seat cover.

My seat was repaired and the cover was changed under warranty. Good luck, Todd

Todd - I am scheduled to bring mine to the dealer for the repair but I was wondering if the repair looks as good and tight as the original seat? How did they do with yours?

If you "bite the bullet" and take it to a outside contractor when they repair the seat have them install extra padding between the bar and seat cover. Ford will do it the cheapest way.
BTW......I have had Wet Okole's since day one and never had a seat problem, in fact when I traded my 99 in on the 01, the seats looked brand-new

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you have warrantee left.

My seat cover and pad were just replaced today under warrantee no questions asked.

Look for pieces of crumbling seat pad under the seat and a black mark on the side wing of the seat.

I beleive this is a known problem to Ford, and can happen on both the drivers and passenger sides.

Probably more common with us big boys, lightweights may not ever have this problem...

01L w/ 10k miles...

Can anyone who has had this repair done tell me if the new cover looks as good as the original? Can you tell it is not original? Thanks.

I had a new seat cover put on the passenger side because it had 2 small cuts from the get-go. They just got a seat cover so they sent it to a local upholstry store to sew it on. The cover is almost as good a fit as the original. If I look close at the seam where the leather borders the pseudo-suede, I can 2 inches where the fabric isn't smooth against the padding. But like I said, you have to look close. To the untrained eye, it's unnoticeable and everything looks stock.

I'm in the same boat as ForesVt. 230 lbs for me and 12k mi. for the L gets the black mark on the driver's seat's side, too.

See if you can't get them to get you whole new seat.

aus6321 - Thanks for that info. My service rep told me they cannot make it look like original. I am going to contact Ford and see about a new seat. Surely Ford dosen't expect me to have one seat that looks original and the other that looks something less than original.
