What to do with the gas cap when getting gas?

What do you guys do with the gas cap when getting gas? The damn thing just drops down and wants to lay on the side of the truck. I've tried proping it up on the gas door, and I've wrapped it in a towel to lay on the side of the truck ... all sorts of things. What do you guys do? Do you just let it hang on the side or is there any tricks you do to keep it off the side? I've thought about cuttin the cord, but haven't done it yet.

Thanks,

Cut the cord and just lay it on the side step.

I just <gasp> let let it rest up against the side of the L. Don't see any scratch marks but then again, I haven't looked for them, either

you can:

A) pry grommet out & remove lanyard without cutting.
this enables you to put the gas cap on the stepside, or in my case, wedge it into the handle, so the pump will keep going.. (almost all pumps are missing the handle lock in my area)

B) get one of these goofy Bibs like that come on a viper. lol

i am going to get a small plastic pic hanger at wally world with the sticky back, used to hang pic's and stick it to the indide of fuel door ,provided it does not hit the cap when closed.

I use my telekinetic powers to leave mine floating off to the side while I fuel up.
