Blowing Hot Air

Alright guys, there has been alot of talk about new exhaust systems (JDM and MAC specifically).

I really like the MAC tips and the sound of the MAC (thanks to MADHOUSE). Have not heard much from JDM. Anyone have any info, pics, or audion file from the JDM exhaust? What about the dual flowmaster idea? I have heard of some guys losing low end with this set up.

Which is the best??

So many that I would suggest a search. Everyone has an opinion and no matter how many sound files you listen to nothing sounds as good as up close and personal IMHO. Maybe you can hook up with a couple Ls in your area. MAC, Bassani, Borla, JDM, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Spintech, Dynomax .....the list goes on.

Hi Moomba,

There's been a fair amount of talk about the JDM SIlver Bullet cat-back system for the Lightning here, so you might want to read those links the other poster kindly provided and use the search feature of these message boards.

I have that system on my Lightning, and I think it's the meanest, angriest-sounding exhaust that does not drone in the cabin I've ever heard. Always sounds aggressive, but it's not 3-alarm loud until you put your foot into it, at which point, *everyone* anywhere near will know you've arrived (or departed).

I've got the complete setup, with the long-tube headers, high-flo cats, etc. It's been on maybe a few weeks so far, and I couldn't ask for a better sound, and the performance is certainly there at the power level's we're at.

Now as far as how much power you will gain, that is dependant upon how much power you're making right now, to a certain extent; put the Silver Bullet on a stock Ligtning using the factory cats and you'll see about a 9 horsepower gain on average over the stock exhaust.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call, we'll be happy to go over that with you, and give you some comparisons to other Lightning exhausts, etc.

I like my JDM?Magnaflow single muffler(14568) with the internal x-pipe. It's just a 'tad' louder than stock--not as loud as the twin Silver Bullets. No drone with it either. The 4 1/2" tips are gorgeous. My sig numbers were done with it on too.

MAC for me.

I work with a Silver L owner who just installed MAC, he loves the stuff 'cause he uses it on his Mustangs and has been happy with the quality. Well, I heard it, drove it, and like it. I'm ordering MAC. So there!!

Like Mike I have the full JDM exhaust, but I went with the bigger oval mufflers. For me the Siver Bullet is to loud, and mine is just right. I drive a lot of miles and wanted a mellower sound. I also love the 4" exhaust tips, they really fill the cut out in the ground effects.

I went to a SVTOA drag day this past friday, there were a bunch of mustangs, Cobras, and a few Lightnings. When we got to the track all the Cobra guys were telling me how awesome my truck sounded. One guy even said when I punched it that it sounded like a Nascar exhaust.

Thats whats great about this board, no one system is right for everyone, buy what you like best. You can have mellow, medium loud, or full out loud.

I was a little confused. When I looked at the title of the thread, I thought it was about politicians, and wondered why it haden't been moved by Doug.

That's about it. Listen to the people that HAVE INSTALLED the exhaust systems more than those that sell it. They gain nothing. You will also see that almost everyone that has installed whatever brand swears by it. Few people don't like what they installed, whatever brand it is. You will also find people have had some type of problem with almost every system, be it missing/not included but expected parts or poor fit. You have to hear a few systems if you want to make an educated purchase. Again, bottom line is -- your truck----your choice. It's not life or death, it's only money. Just buy one. Except for a couple they all sound better than stock, which sounds awful wimpy to me.
