166 blower info...............
166 blower info...............
Hello All,
For those who are interested, as F-150 Online's JDM Engineering parts distributor we had a candid discussion with Jim D'Amore about the actual status & details of the infamous 166 bolt-on supercharger. Current timeframes, details, etc. In other words, a public update for the record, not for a flame war or debate, etc.
A few of those 166 blowers have actually arrived in the past at JDM. That's not news for a number of people, of course.
The batch of 500 166 blowers have been negotiated for and the deal basically finalized, meaning at this point JDM is now actually obligated to take these superchargers. This has obviously taken significantly more time than expected, for several reasons, such having to sample the product to get some significant hands-on time with it in an effort to do basic "due dilligence," making sure these superchargers are indeed good quality units, that this is a viable upgrade as well as what is needed to do this upgrade and maintain reliability of the rest of the motor at ultra-high boost levels of 20+ PSI, etc. That process alone is a significant time consumer, especially considering just how many other parts JDM is involved with designing, having designed, manufacturered, and brought to market. Given that this transaction to obtain the 166 superchargers involves an overseas company, and the very large sums of money required to get the 500 superchargers, that also added quite of bit of time in getting to the point of being able to make this happen.
Having personally done this in the computer business (doing business overseas, products in container quantities, doing business with companies you never have before overseas involving significant sums of money & thus risk, etc.), we're well aware of many details & hassles involved in a deal like this. I have to say hat's off to Jim for sticking with this deal to make it happen, given the scope of everything involved in this undertaking, from testing to aquisition to everything else involved, this was no easy feat.
OK, so that's the background, now here's the current timeframe projection: this shipment will be on it's way from overseas very soon, and they expect delivery in about 6 weeks or so, roughly, for the actual transport time over the water and getting cleared thru customs, etc., barring any unforeseen difficulties. So it looks like about 6 weeks, roughly, to actually see the batch of hundreds of 166 superchargers arrive, as of now. If there are any changes in this, Jim will be in touch with us on this and we'll let everyone here know any details.
For those comtemplating the upgrade to the 166, JDM says to plan on doing a built shortblock to maintaion reliability as part of this upgrade, as the power levels achieved from cranking up the 166 to 20+ PSI boost levels can make short work of the connecting rods. Anyone needing pricing on the "built" short blocks (Manley rods & pistons, etc.) can give us a call.
We hope this serves to clear up some of the mystery surrounding the infamous 166 supercharger and it's availability. We also want to thank Jim @ JDM for taking a significant amount of time to go over this in detail, and very candidly I want to add, to provide the information for us to make a public statement regarding just what's been involved in making this transaction happen, etc.
Our bests to all,

Mike Troyer ,
This is really good news, this will be the best way for a lot of people to go. I will be really happy when they arrive and start going on some peoples trucks. I hope this also helps in the healing process for this community. It reminds me so much of the pullies, some people doubted them and jumped the gun on flying the BS flag just as some have on the 166 blowers. I hope it is over now and like I have said before, good things come to them who wait.
Again Mike thanks for relaying the news.

I was at JDMs Yesterday
and Jim gave me another tour of the supply room.It is like being a kid in a candy store(electric fans here, header pipes there, you get the idea). There 30 electric fans last week and now there is only 6.As fast as he can get the stuff it goes out the door.Jim has spent megabucks to try and get his inventory up.As I was there a couple of gregg evans Monster Boxes were arriving with Jim picking up the core charge. That is right. He is paying the core charge up front(money that can be going elsewhere) So when a customer comes for a tranny they do not have to wait.
If you ever get the chance take a ride there and you will understand how many directions Jim gets pulled in to help the lightning community.
Although I have never been to JLs or Sals I am sure they try do do the same. This is just from my experience.

I think that it is fair to say that with soooo many delays people began not to believe. I mean, this was supposed to be released for X-mas. I'm happy that it is going to come out. Maybe I can get one to go with my engine. It sounds like there will be lots to go around. I'm glad it is coming out.

We all should be friends here, and I do apologize for anything rude that I have said to anyone. So lets try to start building this community back up.
One of those monster boxes has my name on it.

Cant blame anyone for being skeptical.
There was a huge amount of controversy over this blower and its still not out yet. I'm still going to be skeptical. Its a "I'll believe it when I see it" issue now.
All i can say is I'm glad I didnt order one when I first started talking to Justin about these. I e-mailed Justin and asked if there was a "high-output" blower in the works.
Here's his reply:

re:high output blower
Jason,
We are quietly shipping our 166 blowers out. They are 1400. Worth the money!!!
Justin@JDM
Keep it a secret.
When I called and talked to Justin, he said they would ship in two weeks from the order date.
I would have been rightfully pissed off If I ordered one in march and still wouldn' have recieved it yet.
Remind anyone of anything--------lower caged pulley

and then....
and now when the blowers come in, everyone will be pissed because they placed their order and haven't gotten it and say what a piece of crap Jim and his people are. Then when everyone finally has them on their truck, you'll be hearing how great Jim and his people are. Fair weather customers I guess. Kudos for Jim and JDM for hanging in there to make this happen. They must have come up with serious cash to take delivery on 500 blowers!!!!!
