Replacment L tires..Suggestions?

Replacment L tires..Suggestions?

I like the tire size that comes on the L.However I dont like the price.I heard that Nitto makes a 295-45zr18.Is this true,And does anyone know the cost?Life of tire?Etc

I think they are a little over $200 each from discount tire direct. They last....around 15k miles I think...

$206 ea from discountire when I ordered last week... they better not have dropped the price!

j/k... I haven't installed em yet, but my bud in Illinois has em on his truck (with many many, many mods) and let me say, those things hook! After one drive in his truck with those tires I ordered a set... they are good in rain also (though L's generally suck in rain) they are better than the F-1's in wet and dry apps for traction...

15k is about right... course I've only put 5k on my F-1's and they are ready to be changed... even with a rotation at 3k... I like to donate my rubber to help protect my city's streets...

make sure you go to a good shop to get em balanced... I hate ****ty balance jobs (thanks Ford factory...)

I have Toyo Proxes S/T's on mine. They have roughly 8500 miles on them and barely show any wear. Dry handling is equal to the stock F1's and wet handling is much better. These perform every bit as good as F1's, but last much longer. I'm not into replacing tires every 10-15K miles.
I have heard the Nitto's are great tires as well. I'd think you'd be happy with either.

If you order the Nitto 555's from www.discounttiredirect.com you can get them for $206 ea. plus free shipping. Only problem is that as of Tuesday last week, they were back ordered about 2 weeks. The rep said that they were getting a whole pile of them in though, so they should have them soon. I opted for the 555R for the rear and 555 for the front. The 555R's just show up here about an hour ago. I will post tomarrow on how they hook.

Beefcake, you must do some serious burn outs. I've got 17k on my F1's and they are only about half worn out. I race nearly every week. If you want a good price on F1's Nitrous63 check out C&D Tire in Grand Bay Al @ 251-865-1778. This is a post started by some guys that have bought from him. He has sold over 40 sets of F1's to guys here and takeing good care of them. I bought a set just to have for later.

Mileage on the F1's is directly dependant on the temperature at which they are operated at. Here in AZ where the asphalt temperatures can go well over 150° F. . .Miss Daisy is lucky to get 15k miles out of a set. Up in Minnesota. . .you guys should get WAY more than 15k miles.

There are other tires that may do SOME things better than the Eagle F1 GS, but no other tire does everything better than a F1 GS. (this includes things like noise, comfort, traction, wear, etc.)
That is probably why SVT chose them. I would stick with the F1's, they are expensive, but they are also one hell of a tire (all things considered).

I've been known to donate some serious rubber to the road... I've done a few pretty hefty burnouts... I'm pretty sure that tire wear grows exponentially with time when doing a burnout... a minute long burnout leaves a nice big pile of rubber on the ground...

Just make sure the comparment air it turned off... man that blower sucks that smoke in and makes your cab stink bad! woops

Take usahooters advice. I just purchased four new Goodyear F1 gs 295/45/18 tires from C&D. $742 at my front door!! That is $185.50 each! The closest price to that was Tirerack at $206 each. I ordered them on a Monday and had them Wednesday (TWO days!).

BTW, my L now has 20,500 miles and the original set still has a 'little' life left in them.

Thanks for the info gentleman.I think Beefcake and my self like the same charity(Donating rubber that is) I broke down this morning found a local Don Olson tire.They gave me the f-1s at 225.00 a piece mounted/balanced etc.I thought that was a pretty good price for a local store.Next time I will try something different.Probobly in 5000 miles,Depending on how genrous Im feeling

I've run the Nitto 555RII's before and positively loved them. For a roadrace tire, they did exceptionally well in the rain too. I was planning on swapping out my Goodyears for Nittos when the F1s had seen their last... I have yet to find anything bad about the Nittos. A friend just put 555s on his street car, I'll know more here in a few weeks...

The 555R's were good in the rain?!?!?!?! really? with that much tread I thought they would be a terror, since they are pretty much a DOT legal street drag...

I know the 555's are good in water... but... just verify that you are talking about the R's!

Just for clarification, here is the 555:




and here's the 555R's (dunno how these could do well in water)




lemme know... I may get the r's if they are decent in water...

Isn't that the 555DR on the bottom. They're a very soft compound and good for the strip but not the street, unless you like buying tires! They have a 305 also. Hooks up real good.

You're right it's 555R. But they are sticky tires, even without a burnout to heat them up.

Count me in with the F1's. Best combo of traction AND wear rating.Plus they are less cash than the Nitto's. If your going to plunk down 2 bills for tires , wear should be considered. They are after all "street tires". You want traction? Then get a set of D.O.T.'s Just my .02
